We saw this movie last night. Anyone besides me wonder how much Pennzoil paid to have an empty Pennzoil box used as a suitcase in the movie???

I chalk this up as indirect marketing. Kind of like Hawaii 5-0 back in the early 70's good guys drove Fords really good guys drove Lincolns. Bad guys drove Chevy's and the really bad guys drove Caddy's.

Anyway maybe not quite the same thing as the TV show but I did wonder about it.

I've never seen as much product placement in a movie as in the first 30 minutes of that one.

And why do they keep making remakes of good movies? Make remakes of bad movies and make them better!

PS: Why did that alien **** let go of Tom Cruise?

I guess Pennzoil was the only one I saw. What else did you see?

You have to wonder if they just run out of ideas the way they keep doing remakes! Usually I find I'd rather watch the original one..... There was a real rash of them for a while, can't think of them now. Next is the Chocolate one, there was Flight of the Phoenix, and I can't think of the rest.... Seems they should just reissue some of the oldies....

If you are talking about "charlie and the chocolate factory" it's not a remake. the original was "willy wonka and the chocolate factory", the new one is the sequel when charlie is grown up and running the factory.

"Why did that alien **** let go of Tom Cruise?"

Tom got partway inside the alien craft and immediately started lecturing them that "You don't know anything about psychotherapy...I do...and all these psychiatric drugs are a useless fraud...blah blah blah."

Within seconds, the aliens concluded that this guy should be pooped back out. Simply not worth the trouble...

Yea, I saw how Tom Cruise kept pushing the Pennzoil box at the camera. I was really let down by the movie. It had great special effects but, just the same old story line. I felt like the movie was more about Tom and his daughter than about an Alien Invasion. Not even a 50/50 split. Tom sucked in his part. He played the part of a pacifist until he killed the EMT guy.

Hitachi products were showcased.

That movie pretty much stank, but Spielberg has seemingly lost his touch. He makes only safe movies anymore and takes no risks. And that from the guy who literally invented the summer blockbuster with 'Jaws.'

So those aliens are highly advanced that they can wipe us out with war machines that they buried thousand of years ago, but they are too dumb to filter the water and air on Earth? I believe I heard one alien slurp water from a broken pipe in psycho Tim Robbins' basement?

The alien probe sequence stank compared to the dinosaurs stalking the kids in the kitchen in Jurassic Park and compared to the spider robots in Minority Report.

The last 30 minutes of the movie were really boring. The fact that the dumbarse son survived was stupid, and rarely have I seen such a forced happy ending. Spielberg doesn't know how to end his movies anymore.

That Gene Barry had a cameo as the grandfather doesn't help one bit and I doubt that more than a handful of moviegoers even know he was in the original movie.
