Bought this little .22lr to plink and compliment my HK P30SK. Shot it Monday and had everything from ftf, fte, slide issues, mag issues, etc. Contacted Walther and was criticised for using Remington Thunderbolt. They list no requirement in manual but make issue with me for not considering looking online for advice. Not happy, but go it sent off. I will post pictures of this royal snafu. I think this is another closet umarex product too.

I have one. It needs high velocity ammo. I run cci velocitor or stingers with no problems. I just bought some Winchester mp-22 but have not tried it yet. Lower velocity ammo just won't cycle the slide.

Cool,I went back to Federal .22lr copper plated and CCI Stinger/Velicator. Think it will help. Thanks for rapid response

I have one. Use CCI Mini Mags 40 grain. I also have no problem with Remington Golden Bullet or Aguila high velocity. It usually requires about 1200 fps ammo. There is a break-in period after which it will shoot any 1200 fps ammo reliably.Like it a lot.

I have a Browning Buck Mark .22 semiauto, and it won't cycle with just any ammo. CCI Velocitors work well, Aguila Super Extras only work about 2/3 times, and subsonics are completely out of the question.

Too bad about the new pistol, hope they get it sorted out. I've had a P22 target with the longer barrel for probably 10 years and it shoots anything, actually I only shoot standard velocity target ammo in my .22s, if they won't shoot it don't keep it. I recall the P22 needing a little polishing to run 100%. My wife's favorite pistol, the rear sight notch is a little wide but it's not a target gun. Search Walther P22 bible and also go to rimfirecentral.com to the walther forum.

Just remembered the barrel came loose on ours once, locktite fixed it.

I wouldn't be too quick in blaming the ammunition. Walther .22's are proven to be very temperamental. And are highly problem plagued. So you are far from alone. This gun has run the gamut in operational issues from slide cracking, to simply refusing to operate with the slightest bit of reliability. Regardless of what ammunition it is fed.

Research the various forums that deal with this pistol, along with it's seemingly never ending list of issues. You might find a fix that will make your Walther easier to live with and enjoy. This gun seems to have a never ending supply of problems. Much like a woman with bad PMS. And there are forums for them as well.

Went thru poor functioning some years ago with my P22 and found a fix somewhere on a forum that involved a bit of filing here and there. Mine now runs without fail with decent ammo, Federal being one of best non-high price stuff. CCI always ran good, even before my "fix". Dig around the forums...there was one guy really into these and knew what he was talking about. Thunderbolt is [censored].

Both posts above are correct. There seems to be a high number of these pistols that don't work well and HV ammo is just a band-aid, and it didn't take much effort to fix the issues and make it run. After being in production this long it shouldn't still be like this. The Ruger SR22 might be a better choice in this category and seems to have it's early bugs worked out. I wanted to trade the P22 off for a Ruger but wife said no. It stayed.

walther p22 is notoriously tempermental, though it feels wonderful in the hand. ruger sr22 is more reliable and just as handy. berretta neos is also reliable but is topheavy and looks like a phaser.

also fun and most reliable as a 22lr plinker are single action revolvers: new heritage roughrider or used ruger single six if on a tight budget, or new ruger single six if you can afford it. add 22wmr in either for a better protection round.

The best thing about the Walther P22 is that it isn't a Sig mosquito.

If you are interested in doing a good bit of plinking it might pay in the long run to switch to a 22 pistol that will more reliably shoot bulk ammo.

So, my Walther is home now. Cleaned, new barrel, and stickers included free. Will be shooting copper plated from here on out. Did polish internals with Dremel and polishing pad. Slide stop and internals have bling now. Received two new mags too. Back to Federal and CCI. Gave my bulk Remington Thunderbolt to mgr at Napa 1000ct for 3 qts PUP 0w20. Feeling good.
