the guy that i posted yesterday with the malibu, his sister got a really messed up oil change from the quick lube at the local WM where she works. Its a 2003 Ford Exporer sport trac, 106k miles, and it holds 5 quarts of oil. He asked me to check it as he said it was really high on the dipstick. She had kept the empty quart containers n the bed, there was 6, i said hmm somethings up as it only holds 5. I proceeded to check it, level was really high, then i drained and measured what came out. 11 quarts i drained along with an OCOD! I can only assume the guy at WM added 6 quarts along with the 5 that was already in there. Filled it up with 5 quarts Supertech 5W30 and a MCFL820S and sent her on her way. Another reason to never get your oil changed at WM. Just thought I'd share.

Whoa. 11 quarts came out. That is potential damage right there. It must have been shaking and vibrating like crazy. I'm surprised it wasn't sending a black oil plume from the exhaust with that kind of overfill

She needs to go to the TBA manager about this. You need to provide a short, signed statement about your actions to correct the problem and the number of measured quarts you drained. She is entitled to a refund.

I am continually blown away that people trust the 2nd most expensive thing they will ever buy to a chain that is most known for selling cheap imported items, employing no-nothings,having checkout lanes that take far too long to get thru, having empty shelves, using predatory practices to kill local competition...etc
I bet if Dollar Tree started promoting $6.00 oil changes, people would be bringing in their Mercedes and BMWs by the convoy.

Once again I'm not surprised. The guy changing the oil probably got a meaningless cell call, which is more important than his job. He answered the call, forgot he didn't drain the oil and just poured in fresh oil. As the saying goes you get what you pay for. Hey at least the filer was changed. LOL

Too bad the OP touched it!

Should have called ChinaMart and let them tow it back in so the mistake could be documented.

Best thing to do now is ask to see the video tape of them doing the change and see if you can determine whether or not the old oil was ever drained.

Wally World is going to deny deny deny since you corrected their mistake.

Not only WM but, I saw a fella drive a Jeep GC after the dealer was susposed to change the oil. Another person ran after the Jeep owner as he was leaving the lot. The dealer guy drained the oil, whet to do something, came back and gave the guy his keys and told him all done.

I had a vw 1.6l diesel. took to wallmart for a mobil5000 5w20 service with filter i provided. they used a ocod istead of the wix i gave them. They failed to see the gasket of old filter stayed on the block. got two blocks and develiped a severe leak. i had a. a tow company i use religously drive 45 miles oneway to tow me three blocks and required them to fill crank with best top shelf syn with my wix a full refund tow bill of 100 miles and made them give me a freebie diy oilchange. they had no problems.

Wow! I wonder how many people this kind of event happened to? I know I've had people there try to tell me "don't use that brand" (Quaker Defy) it will ruin your engine with deposits and what not. Why do people without knowledge of these products install them in your vehicle?

Most people I know personally, who are 100% capable of changing their own oil and doing maintenance, refuse to do it due to the fact that they would have to get dirty and they think they are too good to do that. Even if I had Bill Gates fortune, Id still change my own oil, work on my own vehicles, and live the same middle class lifestyle i do now.

Word. I try to do simple maintenance things on my cars whenever possible. It's a good feeling knowing the job was done right with quality parts and not by some hourly paid schmuck who's qualifications are questionable at best.

I posted here on BITOG about 4 or 5 years ago the exact same thing happened to my Chevy truck at WM. I think they double-filled mine though. Glad to say I didn't experience permanent damage, AFAICT.

Another time they put ST oil in after I paid for Mobil 1, too. Nothing intentional, just simple imcompetence.

this greatly varies from one WM to the next but the stores here tend to operate on a 2 man operation for oil changes... one works lower bay and drains the oil/replaces the filter and the other fills the oil, washer fluid, and checks the battery... now this doesn't always work out and sometimes one person does have to do both

i hate to be the naysayer here but there is something i question... why did she have the empty quart containers? most walmart oil changes are from bulk tanks or e-box containers... bottled costs an extra $5 and they generally just toss the empty bottles in the trash

I had a 2 post lift installed in my shop so that I can continue doing my own maintenance. Im just getting to the point my life(age) where its getting harder to lay on the ground to do things anymore.
