Interesting article on WalMart pricing and how they are losing customers. I know that this has been discussed off and on relative to their oil prices and this may confirm what some have suspected...they are losing business due to their higher prices on oil, for example.

I don't see as they have much choice but to increase their pricing with the price from suppliers increasing, unless their going to take a loss to keep business. They are already cheaper than AP stores even with some of the specials AZ,AA,and Oreillys are having currently.I didn't throw in NAPA cause their specials aren't very special at least around here there not.

Ive found their prices and often selection to be better than the rest. That really is my only reason to go there. I hate the store besides the oil section.

I don't really like to shop at Wal Mart either. I do buy my oils there because they are priced decent and they are pretty fast in stocking new oils that are just being introduced.

they are losing the sale because their prices are too high as for who are they losing it too its simple people are stretching their oil changes and when people do that they lose sales of not only motor oil but lots of other things as well i know when i would go there "just for oil" my wife would always spend a couple of hundred on other things.. I will tell you i am using the oil that i have at my shop in the drums it is conoco phillips and it is a great oil in every way

IMO...The reason most shoppers decide to go to WalMart is because of their oil prices. All the other items they sell are just "convenience" pickup items for the real shoppers.....Oil shoppers.

IMO....If they raise the price of their oil.....they will loose a lot of shoppers who happen to pick up convenience items while shopping for oil to increase their stash.

I pretty much have written off Walmart myself. Other than to buy oil, it's really not my first choice for any kind of shopping anymore, especially groceries.

If there is a fall off at Walmart, I'm not seeing it. Their shelves are pretty much empty of anything I happen to be looking for including oil.....because of high demand or they just don't buy enough to keep them stocked; I don't know.

Within a mile of the local Walmart, there is Target that has competitive prices and they now have groceries.

Also within a mile of Walmart a new WinCo Foods has opened up and their prices beat Walmart grocery prices hands down.

I work for AAP, and I will say honestly that Wally World is kicking our --- when it comes to oil. On some of their oils it's cheaper to buy it there than at my store.....WITH MY DISCOUNT.... So I really don't see walmart falling off anywhere....

I'm still pretty happy with my local walmart. They restock oil pretty fast and their price is still pretty cheap most of the time (5qt jug price = other 4qt price). But it seems like they're slowly increasing their oil price bit by bit. Like PYB, it went from ~$10=>12.50=>14.50.

I guess the days of quart oil is gone.

A big +1.

That article is poorly written and incomplete.

Prices are up. No kidding, prices are up everywhere.

Same store sales are down 1.8%. [political comment deleted] I've had to cut my spending way more than 1.8%.

There is nothing that can be extrapolated from this story but you guys manage anyway.

they lost me as a big oil buyer when they dropped Tropartic etc.

and they dont' carry the regular Rotella in 10w30 anymore.

some oil isn't priced too bad but i don't buy oil regularly unless it is on sale which rarely happens.
I did buy 4 gallons of t5 awhile back when it was 11.50 a gallon.

i do however sill get my Motorcraft filters there, cause they are still decently priced.

I get most of my oil now from Menards or Fleet Farm.

You can't beat their prices for ST dino. 5 qts of SN oil for $8, everyday price.

For other stuff, they aren't that much cheaper than Target.

LMAO!! I've noticed WM has a lot of stock that hasn't moved at all, like Ultra that still has the "drive a Ferrari" promo from over a year ago. The oil change specials @ AZ, AAP, & O'Reilly's are taking all that business.

In my area, Wally's oil sections are the worst. They're small and poorly stocked...they're frequently out of a lot of the popular oils (like MC 5W-20) and don't get re-stocked in a timely manner. I haven't seen a "Rollback" there on any oil in over a year.

The prices still beat VatoZone and AAP by a lot, though.
