‘24 Jetta SE 34xx on the clock... What a nice car! Wifey and I visit her folk’s grave site in San Diego twice a year, just for the day. Alamo gave us a beautiful gray/black Jetta. The seats were outstanding. The interior was sooo roomy and pleasant. But the seats, with their Naugahyde (or whatever) stopped sliding around without being sticky. Loved them, as did wifey.

The ride was fine; I bet if the cheapo Solus rubber was replaced with Michelin Pilot A/S or Conti’s, it would be amazing.
The only disappointment was the lack of power; it’s pretty gutless. Of course I am used to Model 3 effortless pull, so there’s that.

I am not familiar with modern VW reliability, but I believe this car is a great cross-shopper for the Camry Accord cars.
Very happy. And Alamo kicked me back $30 because the tank was not full. All good!

The Jetta often gets overshadowed by the Asian makes which is a shame because I agree it is a very viable option to the Accord and Camry and gives German vibes on a budget to boot!
Teutonic for the win! The 2 most surprising cars I’ve rented are the Mazda 3 and this Jetta. I wonder how much the Jetta costs? It would need better electronic tech, though...

1.4T? Our 2016 is far from gutless IMO. Although it's the older 6 speed automatic.

Now, my 2.4T Tacoma or the Camry will obviously "smoke" it, but I feel the 1.4T definitely holds its own, especially compared to the old 2.5L 5 cylinder.

Jetta is actually Corolla and Civic category.

I test drove a 2023 Taos FWD 1.5T, and the performance was very underwhelming. Not sure which trans it had. By comparison, a Nissan Rogue with 1.5T 3-cylinder engine felt more peppy.

22' and after Jetta are 1.5T and it is a tad faster than both Camry and Accord non-hybrid 4 cyl's afaik.

I agree with much of what you said. The fit and finish of modern VWs is really good. My wife’s Tiguan is the best car that she’s ever driven.

Yeah, I know. Passat would be Camry and Accord. Jetta is basically Golf with trunk. Sort off.
The MK7 Jettas are squarely in the middle of the two segments as far as size...larger than a Corolla but smaller than a Camry. Minus total cargo capacity with the seats down, considerably larger than a Golf.

The jetta gli is the one I'd get as it still offers a manual transmission. From reading current jettas have really stepped up in reliability. My only gripe is that they have that factory in Chattanooga Tn and should be built there along with their Ev's.

You have to keep the 1.4T "on boil" or in its sweet spot. It doesn't have the torque it should down low.

The 2025 Jetta refresh looks much sharper on the front end. The non GLI trims get really good fuel freeway economy because of the Budak cycle especially with a manual transmission. The manual is gone for 2025 except for the GLI.

There are Youtube videos of individuals supposedly getting 50 + MPG in Jetta manuals on the freeway.

They were always larger than a Golf. But they are made on Golf basis. Granted, Jetta is I think based on Golf VI plus solid axle.
