So did the lab make any comments? Did they say that the oil looks good or anything like that?

In the comments section the wrote me: "Brian As you can see nothing too unusal showed up in this virgin sampleof your LE 8800. The insolubles read surprisingly high, as we generally find 0.0 (or at most a trace) of insolubles in virgin oil. The TBN read 5.7, not very high for a 15W/40." Thats it. So what does everyone think?? I still new at this how does it stack up to other virgin oils??

Well, it is kind of surprising to me that the TBN is so low. But a motor oil can probably still be good with a relatively low TBN. Usually though, a oil that can be used in diesel engines has a high TBN (because of all the soot).

It is strange also that there are so many different metals in this oil. I wonder what purpose they play, or maybe just contamination in some cases?

The real test will be the UOA and we find out how the oil performs.

What does all those Chem and metals mean and do? What is and what does it do: Alu, Chr, Iorn, Moly, Pot, Boron, Sil, Sod, Cal, Mag, Phos, Zinc, Bar?

Brian D., Alu is Aluminum, Chr is Chromium, of course Iron (Fe), you know what Moly is, Pot is Potassium, Boron, Mag is Magnesium, Sil is Silicon, Sod is Sodium, Cal is Calcium, Zinc and Bar for Barium.

A lot of those abbreviations are not the actual scientific abbreviations.

Best thing for sure is to wait and see how UOAs of this motor oil look. I would not use this oil unless people who were using it were getting great results.

The TBN was probably computed using the new method that Blackstone changed to.
The oil from LE is a top dino oil in the heavy machine and trucking industry. I have seen good UOA's on this oil on Ford PSD's.
I think that roughly $5 a quart shipped to my house is a little steep for dino oil. I get super results with Schaeffer's 15W40 Series 7000 including single digit temp. starts without plugging in. And the price is change short of $3 at my door step.

The Scheaffers is my next experiment I have a case (12qt) at home right now. I plan on running it after the LE and comparing the UOA and then stick with the best one weather it be LE or Scheaffers. I got the scheaffers at 2.49 a Qt a rep placed it with a bigger order and then brought to my door himself. Now that is service! So 5$ or 2.50 a qt either way its costing me less than the Amsoil did and I can "go as long" before a drain, so I'll see how it goes.
