Very stupid question

That would be safer than the alternative...

i.e. try to do the reverse of this, front wheels on the hood of the tow car, rear (non drive) wheels on the ground.

No. GHT was a poster named GearHeadTool. He constantly asked very stupid questions, and despite others giving him good advice he rarely followed it. He ended up destroying every vehicle that he had through his own stupidity and not heeding the advice and information given by others. He made himself look incredibly ignorant, and actually reveled in any attention at all despite continuing to look extremely ignorant.

Now, after the explanation of who he was, and after carefully rereading your questions, do you see why you are getting compared to GHT?

What does it mean to dinghy tow?

Spend a moment on Google and you'll have your answer.

Could you take a picture of your cars? It would help your case if you could at least prove to people you are not just some troll.

I'm pretty sure he meant bring bacon and eggs for your trip...

Don't forget the home fries.

Bad idea all around, but if you really can't keep yourself from doing it, rent a tow dolly so you are not flat-towing the Honda, and don't attempt to go faster than 45 mph. Stay off the Interstates so you won't be a rolling chicane, and take your cell phone so you can call a tow service. Hopefully there won't be any hills on your route. Allow plenty of following distance to vehicles ahead of you and anticipate stops well beforehand. Stop every couple of hours and check over your tow rig, let the Stratus cool, check the oil and coolant levels, and rest your nerves.

Using a tow dolly with brakes shouldn't be a big issue, there shouldn't be any sway problems and not a huge increase in stopping distances. Just take your time and be easy on the tow vehicle.
If it was legal to do it, I wouldn't have a problem, but Uhaul won't rent one to you if you don't have the tow capacity rating.

If you can't move the vehicles safely, remember you can always sell....move...and go shopping for another when you are settled in to your new home.

You admit it's a dumb question yet you really are desperate to do it. Think man..... stop fishing for the inevitable dummy who will tell you it's okay.

Better yet, Craigslist all three cars, and buy a bus ticket.

If the Civic has a manual transmission, you could tow it a short distance on the ground......AT trannie, you can't.

The other issue with towing a car with another car, besides the lack of power/transmission, is that there are not brakes on the towed vehicle. This creates a dangerous situation in a big hurry. Not to mention the fact that the toad (Another term used when a vehicle is towed behind an RV) will not track well behind the towing vehicle.

In other words, only do this if you have a death wish, and don't care about anyone else on the road's safety.

don't do it. You'll be way over the safe, and legal limit. If you are involved in an accident, you will be eaten alive in the insurance mess that follows.

Here's how Smokey Yunick did it back in the day (from his autobiography):

In the beginning we raced 40 or more times a year. We had one car with one engine (in the car). We towed with a passenger car and carried all our wheels, tires, spare parts, and tools in the tow car and the race car. ... Ever hear of a “yellow bar?” Well, that was the best we had … a tow bar from tow car bumper to race car bumper. They cost ’bout 75 bucks.

Only way you could tow and relax, was at 80 mph. Any speed under that, and you’d steer your assets off trying to hold it on your half of those skinny two lane roads that we used 30 percent of the trip. Your back would get wringing wet going from “almost” to “almost.”Well, this also made another problem. Before police radios, we just kept going. By the time cops got going, we’d out-run ’em. But soon came science, and them upstanding upholders of the law got radios! Hot dang y’all! Then here come those hi-speed police cruisers with V8s and hi-speed “tars". Man it was over. They invented road blocks and we became their worst enemy (smart-assed racers). Sirens, flashing red lights, spot lite in the roof to check ’em out. A speeding violation took a minimum of two hours. Had to go to see the judge. (As a rule some ignorant son-of-a-birtch who hated racers.)

No thanks. But maybe a Subaru WRX STI.

Should I tow in Drive or 3rd gear?

Do you have a license to drive?
