well i went to the vavoline web site and tried the let us help you pick an oil.they stated my 09 santafe called for syn power because it was high performance vehicle and the oem recomonded it. i checked the owners manual and this is what it says.
use an api sj sl or sf gf3 or above 5/ 20 5w30 or 10/30for normal temps-18 or 5/20 for ecomony and lower temps hyundai recomends quaker state. it says the same thing for my 03 sonata with the 2.7 v6 i have Qs syn 5w30 4x4 in the santa fe and 5w30 super tec in the sonata by choice.does anyone who owns a hyundai have a manual that says you have to use syn oil in it or is this just marketing? it does not say recomends Qs in the o3 manual.

Quaker State became factory fill on all Hyundai made in the USA in 2004. Not sure they are still doing it, but for the first year the factory fill was Quaker State synthetic oil.

Yeah I tried this feature as well. Apparently my wife's 96 Grand Prix with a 3100 is high performance as well. I did not know 189 cubic inches making 120 HP is a performer.

Just and anecdotal tale to point out how flexible these Hyundai engines are. Long story short, our Lincoln dealership came into posession (RE-possession, actually) of a 2004 Santa Fe with 35k on the clock. Since it was the sole vehicle on the lot not on some banker's floor plan, we kept it for a runner vehicle. You know, Courthouse with titles, bank, post office, etc. I tried to use the recommended 5W30 when we changed the oil but gave up reminding them to use bottled oil and let them pump the bulk Motorcraft 5W20 into it. It hasn't gotten perfect interval maintenance, either; but, at 119,000 plus, it uses no oil between changes, makes no noise at idle or otherwise, and has never hesitated to start and run like new. A steady diet of 5W20, even on the gulf coast, works like a champ in that 3.8 motor.

Yeah I just went on that site, and it said mine is a high performance motor also.

Must be their universal suggestion.

It suggested Durablend for my Silverado, basically because it is a truck...

(I won't tell them that I run PP in it...)

WHY WE RECOMMEND
SYNPOWER®
FOR YOUR ELANTRA

Because your ELANTRA is a performance vehicle, or you drive your vehicle in average monthly temperatures that go above 90°F or below 20°F, or your OEM requires synthetic oil per manufacturer specifications, we recommend that you use Valvoline's SynPower Full Synthetic Motor Oil. SynPower delivers superior engine protection by fighting the 3 major causes of engine stress: heat, deposits and wear. SynPower provides outstanding high and low temperature wear protection, superior cold start properties and powerful detergents to help prevent deposits and sludge. Learn more.

ok ok ok I hit the I tow button :)

The word "or" is in there. Your vehicle is a performance vehicle OR you drive your vehicle where the temperature can be above 90 or below 20. They might be referring to the temperature.
