I have no problem with ashland products. The issue is with Valvoline is no matter where I go it is always about 20 cents more a quart than SOPUS products. If I can get it on sale I will use it. If not I will use SOPUS products the point about UOA's has no bearing with me. If I can get a product that performs as well or close to another product that cost me less I will use it. I do not consider Valvoline a sleeper oil because it cost more normally and performs as well as any other product. I have used it and I will use it again. But it is not any better or any worst that any name brand PCMO on the market? The answer is NO! If someone had a question about or would Valvoline be a good choice for thier auto then yeah it is a great PCMO. Valvoline is a very well engineered product, tested, and beloved by many. If anyone prefers to use it you will not get any argument from me. My interactions with Ashland has been very professional and informative. As for some interactions I have had with other major companies in the oil business I will not go into have not been informative and even downright rude. So if you endorse Valvoline go ahead! Ashland has never done anything bad to me and their products are top notch and you are not going to find a better major PCMO for 90 percent of our applications.

Strange thing is that up here, I had to restrain myself from buying some Valvoline, since my oil stash is large enough as it is. The local WMs brought in enough white bottle to fill a swimming pool, and it hasn't been moving fast, even at $9.88 for the five litre jug.

Exactly what I did last year. Bought several jugs of VWB for $10 for a 5L jug.

I've recently 'discovered' SynPower and can attest to it's magical ability to make my Subaru run quieter and smoother. Haven't a clue how or why, but it's a difference I can hear and that's good enough for me.

DuraBlend is going in my wife's Corolla in about 600 miles so we'll see if that gets any quieter since it *hates* PYB. I'm almost thinking the YB cleaned up something a bit too well and now I have something plugging up an oil gallery. It's gotten very noisy lately on it's 3rd(?) change with PYB.

Its in my older F-150 as we speak.
Runs good!

Been using Valvoline conventional 5w20 in my civic for 4 yrs now with wix filters, going 5,000 miles; no problems, leaks or anything. Car had 60,000 on it when I bought it, now has almost 115,000 on it.

Greatly expanded my stash about 3 yrs ago when MaxLife & Synpower were about a $ per quart after rebate: 20W-50 mix in the 1991 420SEL lasted about 25K miles (using 7.5-8K OCI's).

When the Gallon/5 Qt. BOGOF rebate era began I even had a new application: 5w30 Synpower in the SC400. I always have a supply of 10w30 Synpower that's around a net $2.50 per quart because I can use it in any of my vehicles for make-up oil or "in a pinch" with total confidence.

And I have gallons & gallons of both...

Cheers!

Started using Valvoline, again, when I had the dealership change the oil along with other services that the local mechanic, that I trust, could not do on my Nissan Frontier. I changed it a little over 114k miles, and now the truck is within 300 miles of another oil change, however, since it is out of warranty, I am going to push the OCI out to 120k to 125k miles. Checked the oil today, it is very black.

Nice turnout for Valvoline users, fans and admirers.

In the PQIA conventional motor oil testing vwb 5w30 tested the thickest, AND IT HAS the best cold temp cold cranking viscosity # of all major brands. It should have kept the old name "All Climate".

How do they do that? With synthetic base oil?

Time to change the oil. Nissan recommends every 3 months or 3750 miles for most driving conditions.

Aside from the VW specific ATF and power steering fluid needed in my VW, I only use Valvoline lubricants....oil, ATF, gear lube and power steering fluid (Pyroil) in my Jeep and Jetta.

I have used Shell dino, Castrol GTX, M1, PP, Ultra and SynPower in my Accord and have found that it runs a little smoother with SynPower than any of the others.

My Astro was on Castrol HM for a long while, but since I found Valvoline to be good in my Accord, I switched the Astro to MaxLife.

I will admit that the difference is so subtle in my Accord, that it might just be in my head, but the MaxLife in the Astro really blew my mind. It is so quiet and smooth, I can't believe it!

Although I will always be tempted to stray, I think Valvoline has become my favorite oil brand.

Just picked up five- 5 litre jugs at walmart for $10.88 per jug.
with our new hst taxes here in Ont that still works out to $2.48 per litre. For us cannucks thats not bad. Considering supertech 5 or 10w30 is $3.98 per litre! I grabbed whatever they had left .I noticed walmart here in Toronto clearing out vwb.Looks like they will be only carrying maxlife. Any way that make 60 litres of white bottle 10w30, 14 bottles of maxlife 10w30, another 14 bottles of 5w30 full synthetic, all bought on clearence at walmart. I dont wait for sales, only by on clearance.I never will pay full pop for oil! Up here getting alittle pricy with the new sn rating.....valvoline lover ....i guess so.

93 tercel 80,000km vwb 10w30
96 tercel 146000km 5 or 10w30 semisyn maxlife
93 gmc safari 300,000km vwb 5w30(winter,10w30 summer)

oh one more thing went to walmart last week needed to get some stuff could not help myself had to see the oil isle, got an orphan pyb 10w40 for $1.50 a steel for me up here!!!!

anyone know why they are getting rid of valvoline wb at walmart?

7 years I called Clorox Labs, the tester of motor oils, at the time. I was inquiring about the viscosity of STP. Anyway, we got into a discussion about Valvoline and Mobil 1. He told me, after a 30 minute conversation, that Valvoline, in lab tests, protected metals just as good as Mobil 1 for 5000 miles. He said the only difference at the end of the test, was that Valvoline was no longer a 10/30, and had broken down, and the Mobil 1 was still a 10/30 BUT, BUT was still as DIRTY as the Valvoline from fuel burn-off.
