Right now I am going to test Pennzoil Ultra and Mobil 1 HM in my car. But with Valvoline Synpower so cheap I might start using it. It is about $5.80 a quart in single quart bottles and in the five quart container just about $4.00 a quart.

I put P. Ultra in the xB today. I'll do an analysis at about 6.5k miles which I have done on this car with PP and Formula Shell Full Synthetic. I'm guessing that the Ultra won't justify the extra dollars.

What would it have to do to justify the few extra dollar cost?

I think a substantially better TBN retention would be a start.

Did Valvoline ever pass that HTO- 06 does Honda reccomend Valvoline / in any way? Some dinos have as good a add pack or better. Other than a rather good low Noack rating I cannot see why a watered down oil is considered. Oh, yes it is cheap in Walmart, that is why maybe.. Cheap.

Synpower is a very good synthetic oil, enough said. It has not always been good though.

The SynPower in Saturn UOA at 7500mi had TBN at 6.5, iirc.

Ah, the mystery add. that cannot be found in any VOA. But some people know what they are and therefore know Valvoline.Have tried Valvoline recently sticking with calicium above 2,000. If you want this ability to know what mystery add pack are not in VOA you must first admit you also believe in the tooth fairy. And most of all take your meds.Tooth Fairy believe and you will know the MYSTERY ADD PACKS>

This one?

Not bad but would have been better if the TBN was a Blackstone 6.5

You don't understand and refuse to listen. VOA/UOA DON'T SHOW EVERY SINGLE THING IN THE OIL. The base stocks could simply be extraordinarily good. They only test for certain metals, it's not like they test for every single element on the periodic table, and possible mixture/solution/compound in the known universe.

We should find out pretty soon if products like Pennzoil Ultra, Mobil 1 HM, and Valvoline Synpower are any good or not. There will be plenty of everyday experience with these oils by many drivers and lots of VOAs and UOAs.

The only point I was trying to make in this posting was that Valvoline Synpower seems to be available at a real good price. I would assume that it is a better product than conventional motor oils.

If Pennzoil in 5 quart containers is about $12.50 in price, and the Valvoline Synpower is about $20.30 in price in a 5 quart container, that is a price difference of less than 8 dollars.

Well that will have to wait until at least a few UOAs come in to see how the TBN retention is.

Just to prove a point re. oil bashing I told my friend watch this: all you have to do is bash any oil in the world other than Mobil 1 and they come out of the wood pile. You can bash Mobil 1 and for the most part it is accepted. My friend thinks it because alot of people are too early toilet trained. I agree.

good luck, if it is that cheap something is missing..do the research, use the best for the longest intervals and rest assured
