Anyone have any experience with this oil? I have not seen it before until the other day. I walked into Walmart, and there was one bottle just sitting on the shelf. The weird part is, that this weight hasn't been carried there before.

I was just curious as to how good it is in terms of stoutness, drain intervals and add pack. How does it stack up in terms to the likes of pennzoil 5w40, or any other 5w40?

Thanks for any help!

Hmm, I should check mine. I might be low/mid sap formula with low tbn for euro cars. What did label said other than 5w-40?

Yup, that's exactly what it is. Even though the add pack is weaker, it may not necessarily be a bad thing, depending on specific application.

For my personal uses, I'd choose M1 0w-40 or PU 5w-40 over this Valvoline.

There are two Synpower 5w40 Eurograde's: HST and MST. One is mid-SAPS, the other is high SAPS. The HST version has higher TBN and Phos content.

Except that the HST version is not available at retail level, so that is probably not what the OP found at Walmart.

I remember when Synpower 5W-40 was the first 5W-40 oil you could buy at a retail store. When I bought my 2000 Golf 1.8T. I had a hard time finding a 40 weight 502 oil. Even Mobil 1 0W-40 wasn't in stores yet. You had to buy it from Porsche and Mercedes dealers only.

From a couple of UOA's I have it preforms well enough in some Audi/BMW applications more often than not producing lower wear #'s than M-1 0W40. For what that is worth.

I don't have experience with 5w40 but I know that the ML in my Santa Fe is performing beautifully. So smooth and quiet. Valvoline works best in both of our vehicles, I'll say it time and time again!!

Yes, I really love NextGen Maxlife too! It makes all my vehicles run super smooth, and has kept them all extremely clean. I just ran across the 5w40, and was curious about it.
