Easy to get out of them paying anything out.

Also same warranty with Mobil 1 as with Mobil 5000.

If your buying the oil for the "warranty" then buy the Mobil 5000...

No thanks, but I appreciate the advise. I have seen for too many years the advantage of using synt. oil.

Also XM warranty excludes normal engine wear, so good luck anybody on successfully filing a oil related failure claim. If there is such a thing as an oil related failure.

We agree!

I've NEVER had a single oil related problem in the MANY MANY miles I've driven over the decades.

And we BOTH WILL agree that today's oils are much better then the oils you and I were using years ago.

That is why I don't get into the posting of links because they are one thing... MARKETING which is [censored]. Period.

That is a good description of how PAO is made and was written a while back. On that same link in the FAQ section at the top, I believe it's questions 20 and 21 it says the following.

What group of base oils is used in the formulation of SynPower?
Valvoline uses a mixture of Group III and Group IV basestocks.

Does SynPower use polyalphaolefin (PAO) base stocks?
Yes. Valvoline uses a mixture of Group III and Group IV basestocks.

I would pretty much bet a pension check that at a minimum,75-90% of the base stock used is Group III.

The "warranty" on Mobil 5000 is 5,000 miles or 6 months. The "warranty" on M1 is whatever the mfg recommended OCI..

While not a big difference in many cases they are not the same......

And I've seen the advantage of using ANY oil. Just change it and you'll get down the road just fine.

Want to compare how much I paid for oils on my last 390k engine over what you paid?

We both got down the road and both engines are still running fine, passing smog...

Unlike you, I've done it both ways so I have a little more data to go off of.

Take care, Bill

"Want to compare how much I paid for oils on my last 390k engine over what you paid"? BTW why the smart aleck smiley face?

Many of us have free or very low cost synthetic. Many including myself could hold up to your challenge very well.

Take care...

On my Focus it was 7500 miles, but on my Fusion it's 5000 mile My daughters MB it's 13000 miles. Regular M1 says for the manf. OCI I guess it covers them all. At least in theory.

Wrong. Mobil 5000 can be used for however long the OEM recommended OCI is. So if you put it in a OLM vehicle and they say OLM or 1 year the oil is good for the 1 year. Even if you go over 5000 miles!

My owner's manual says to change oil every 10,000 miles; can I still use Mobil Clean 5000?

Yes. For applications where the oil life indicator light or owner's manual recommended change interval exceeds 5,000 miles and a conventional oil is recommended, Mobil Clean 5000 will provide protection for the full oil change interval.

Take care, Bill

Well, don't mean to make all of you mad, but from the age of 16 to 63 I never paid a single dime for any motor oil. While in my teenage and young adult years, my father worked for Mobil Oil Corporation and got free oil. When I went to work for Pennzoil, I got free oil, and until Shell killed the program last year, as a retiree I got free oil. Now I have to pay for the darn stuff.

I've bought my share of 99 cent PP and $1 Mobil 1 also. Over the years you'll find many more deals on conventional oils over syn. That is a fact.

That stinks.

But 16-63 you had a good run Johnny!

Protection? If they say so. Warranty? Probably not..And I am not vouching for the usefulness of these warranties. BTW anyone know of a mfg that recommends 10,000 OCI with conventional oil? If not just throw away question and answer.

Mobil Clean 5000 Motor Oil Limited 5000 Mile or 6-Month Warranty

This is a limited warranty covering the Mobil Clean 5000 lubricant you purchased. ExxonMobil warrants its lubricants to be free from defects and will replace any Mobil lubricant that is defective. ExxonMobil guarantees that the Mobil Clean 5000 lubricant you purchased will protect your vehicle’s critical engine parts from oil related failure for 5,000 miles or six months, which ever comes first. If not, provided the engine was serviceable at the time the oil was installed, ExxonMobil will have your vehicle repaired and replace the oil at no cost to you. Be advised that if your vehicle is covered by a warranty, you should follow the vehicle's oil life sensor or the oil change interval recommended in your owner's manual to avoid a disruption in your vehicle warranty. Follow your owner's manual if the vehicle is operated in any of the following severe services: racing or commercial applications including taxis, limousines, etc.; frequent towing or hauling; extremely dusty or dirty conditions; or under excessive idling conditions.

ExxonMobil Lubricants & Petroleum Specialties Company, a division of Exxon Mobil Corporation ("ExxonMobil") provides this limited warranty to the purchasers who use Mobil Clean 5000 lubricant in their vehicle.

This limited warranty covers the Mobil Clean 5000 lubricant and critical engine parts lubricated by the lubricant.

This limited warranty is valid for 5,000 miles or six months from the date [purchase or installation], whichever is earlier.

Take care.

I don't like this part.

I read awhile back that Mobil 1 seemed to show excellent results in Toyota engines. Is that still the consensus?

PS: I ask because I recently bought a Corolla and I have some Mobil 1 in my stash.

I've run it in mine and it was oil. The UOA came back a little worst over the other oils I've run.

I'll be putting in a few OCIs of Mobil 1 0w30 that I got for a buck a quart in the next few weeks and see how that goes.

The Corolla will do FINE with ANY oil...

Millions prove that!
