Wowwwwwwwww. Not sure about that but alrighty then. Now that we know how you feel.

I think he was making fun of the marketing that valvoline and castrol use to compare themselves to Mobil 1.

So far M1 doesn't critise other oil companies by name. I hope they continue to show they are a high class company and not do that.

Don't fall for the marketing hype! I do agree, that not bashing a competitor is classy! And I'm not just saying that because I just recently poured M1 into my engine

I've always been curious how much better or worse some Valvoline products are versus the store-brand oils Ashland Oil produces...

Just an additive difference on comparative mineral or "synthetic" oils? I don't know...

I agree with this statement. However, from a marketing standpoint, Mobil doesn't have to call out other companies by name. They are far and away the leading synthetic oil brand. Now, if they were to fall to second place (not going to happen), I'll bet they would start criticizing other brands left and right. It's just the way it works when you aren't on top. Another non-oil example: Pepsi always bashes on Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola never mentions another brand in its advertising.

I'm no longer a fan of Mobil products, however I will say they are a class act when it comes to advertising. Seems they are targeting a certain sector of the market that has more of an education and income than some of their competition has targeted. No product bashing, name calling, just state some facts and benefits of their products and let people decide. Smart company in my book, and their balance sheet proves their marketing is working quite well! JMO

Most likely because there are just as good products which can be had for less money? I purchased my first bottle of M1 recently, but only because it was on sale, which doesn't happen often up here.

It was more about poor attitude and CS than anything else. It all started when Ashland made claims about their Mobil 1 5W30 oil not being up to spec. My brother and I emailed them our concerns and were replied to as if a father was disciplining a child. Phone conversations were no better. I also feel there are better oils out there for my vehicles so I made the change. A lot of people like the company and the product. I respect them for not rolling in the mud with the competition.

Out of curiosity. When was the last time you used Valvoline?

Aprox.1975. In the early 60 I used QS for a while but it caused sludge really bad. About 67 I started using Royal Triton until I moved to Maine where I couldn't get it then used Valv. In 75 I used Amsoil 10-40 for cold weather starts. and in 78 I switched over to M1 5-20( only wt. they had at the time) and have been with them ever since.

Agree.

They don't sink to the pathetic lows some oil companies do.

I abhor Pennzoil, what a name... Does it sell outside the US? I bet it is a no-name.

Well sir, you would be wrong. Sells all around the world. All over Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Australia.

But that is your right to abhor it, a lot of people do.

Ok. I'll buy that, as a preference of yours. Maybe it's "better", maybe it's not. The longer I spend on bitog, and the more I see, I realize it's never that cut and dried. People's opinions are, but not the facts. But even if for some reason this is an exception to that rule, ok, I think all that "2x, 4x and 16x" better stuff in that quote was absolutely ridiculous.

Look at all the folks going 300-400k on dino oil, etc. And Mobil 1 for that matter, pick a brand, there are stories out there about high mileage. I don't hate any particular oil, the more I read on here, they are all not that much different from each other, especially for a street car or truck. So all this 16x better stuff is a bit humorous to me

He just hates M1. You will notice that theme with a few posters. There are also a number that abhor Royal Purple.

Not all Mobil 1, just most of it. I believe their standard grades have become watered down junk.
