The title pretty much says it all. Is one of these clearly better than the other, or will most drivers never notice the difference?

In the average range of use for most folks, I doubt you would see much difference. Start to approach the extremes in heat, RPMs, temperature, etc. and you will probably start to see deviation (to what extent I don't know enough to say with these two specific oils).

Really depends on the use, in my opinion, but I prefer to go "overkill" with my oil versus settling for another that I don't think will make much of a difference.

I'm sure some others with technical info will chime in soon. :-P

Valvoine is 4X better than Mobil 1 and Edge is 2x better than Valvoline and 16x better than Syntec.

Do they all meet GM4871M spec? The one's that do are probably better than the one's that don't.

Ok. I'll buy that, as a preference of yours. Maybe it's "better", maybe it's not. The longer I spend on bitog, and the more I see, I realize it's never that cut and dried. People's opinions are, but not the facts. But even if for some reason this is an exception to that rule, ok, I think all that "2x, 4x and 16x" better stuff in that quote was absolutely ridiculous.

Look at all the folks going 300-400k on dino oil, etc. And Mobil 1 for that matter, pick a brand, there are stories out there about high mileage. I don't hate any particular oil, the more I read on here, they are all not that much different from each other, especially for a street car or truck. So all this 16x better stuff is a bit humorous to me

Always been a Mobil fan and will continue to be as long as Mail in Rebates are not involved. Not to say Valvoline doesn't make a great oil cause they do.

The cert wear sequence allows the cam to be worn out - completely shot at 4mils. Anything over a couple tenths wear should be alarming. And to add insult, it allows averaging. Ridiculous!

He just hates M1. You will notice that theme with a few posters. There are also a number that abhor Royal Purple.

Even though the last time I used a Valvoline oil many of you guys weren't born. I have no critisem of their product. However I have used M1 oils for 31 years and find them to be outstanding in every engine I have put it in.
