Is Valvoline All Fleet Plus 30W an exceptable oil for first startup in a newly rebuilt engine? I'm pretty sure it has zinc in it but not sure about moly. Would that make it not a good choice? I already put it in the engine but i can take it out if its horrible oil. its not worth ruining the engine for 30-40 bucks.

That should be a very good oil for break-in of your engine.
Should be fine. Run it 15-20 hours and change it. Change the filters as well. But don't go past 20 hours.
thanks for the reply. I was just worried about it because it said on the msds that it was parrafinic. is that okay? Does that mean its not real dino oil?
It will be fine. It should be rated API CJ-4, CI-4, CH-4, CG-4 and CF/SL which will be ok for what you are using it for. Once you run this and drain it, switch to a marine 40w which will take more fuel dilution and have better shear strength. But all fleet is a diesel oil and will take a pounding. For marine use lots of guys run diesel 15w40 or 40w Delo, Rotella or Delvac. Pennzoil also makes a Marine 40w that Walmart sells. I use 25w40 Quicksilver oil that has no viscosity index improvers that works well too. West Marine carries the whole range of Marine grade oils. They handle fuel dilution really well versus automotive brands.

parrafinic-This means the oil has wax in its composition, not really a good thing, but for what your plans were with the oil it should be fine

It's not 1965 anymore.
Any Dino oil you buy will be parrafinic based. Valvoline, Castrol, Pennzoil etc. All of them unless you buy a high end synthetic.

OMG, I can't believe I read such an ignorant, misiniformed statement on this site.
Parraffinic oils are high quality base mineral oils, not to be confused with parrafin wax.

Personally I think it's a little too heavy for a start-up on a new engine. Unles you live in a really warm climate, I would go with a 10w30, then after a bit go over to the 30W.
