I finally bit the bullet and upgrade from Win10 to Win11. The mb is an Asus Rog Strix X570. I had to update the bios as the original bios wouldn't support TPM 2.0. The bios update took two tries for some reason even though I followed Asus's instructions to the "T." When I restarted after the second bios update try the computer froze! Did a reboot and all was fine.

I was supersized that Win11 still supports Office 2003 apps.

After my beloved win 7 machine gave up after a lightning strike, I grabbed a new small form factor HP mini tower for well under 400 bucks at staples. Win 11 was a bit of a curve and not a fan of the yearly and costly "rental" software business model. But it's working well now . Made links for control panel and semi-hidden stuff like that. A big drag was HP's Insight Analytics "spy" program, I Noticed it was chewing up mem and CPU so I kept deleting it the wrong way, and it kept reinstalling. I think after a few months of whack-a-mole it gave up. Idle CPU usage is now under 2%.
I am liking the lightning fast boot times on this cheap HP intel core PC. Less than 30 seconds from a cold startup - my low end samsung phone takes two minutes! - Arco

Windows 11 is more or less fine as an operating system. I can deal with/get used to any of the UI changes from Windows 10 and have them not make much of an impact. It's fast and solid and it works. It's fine.

It's the advertising, data collecting, and total lack of privacy that I have a big problem with. Once Microsoft completely removes the ability to use Windows 11 with a local user account is when I'll give up on it for good. Recent tech news says it's coming.

This version of 11 is better than the first version for sure. I held out upgrading my most Windows machine until last weekend and the upgrade was absolutely without any drama. Compared to my new 2023 Windows 11 laptop that had to have tons of software fixes before I could enjoy it, this upgraded 2021 desktop only needed the start menu moved to the left side. I do not like the way 11 was forced on me, and I hope the next Windows version goes a lot better. I doubt it will, they never learn.

I recently upgraded both of our Win10 PCs. Both are old DDR3 based systems which were intended for Windows 7. But it turns out TPM compatibility is not mandatory. There is a simple workaround.

I'm happy with Win11. Seems to work at least as well as Win10 and really not much different.

my work laptop was upgraded to win11. the thing i notice is that 16GB RAM is not enough for this OS. Also, UI overall is a step down.

The bloatware and garbage they pack into it is annoying. I found a hack to clean install it about six months ago without all that garbage and is stays out even after the updates, etc. I'd have to dig around to find it, but it worked well. I still prefer Linux Mint and use it 95% of the time.

If you have a link to a simple work around I’d love to see it. We’ve got an older 10 PC we don’t use much but it supposedly won’t upgrade and I really don’t want to replace it. Thanks!

I just saw that recent insider builds suggest microsoft has eliminated all known workarounds for setup with a local account. A MS account will then be mandatory 😡.

I just downloaded the Win 11 25H2 ISO file yesterday and did a fresh install on my Dell laptop. I used oobe\bypassnro and was able to install with local account.

Run the windows 11 setup executable with this switch: /product server

It will update your Windows 10 to Windows 11, ignoring the TPM requirements. The setup will tell you it is going to install server, but just ignore that, it doesn't.
