Vehicle is an 06 Silverado. I've turkey basted with amsoil syn ps fluid but I am out.
What is a good ps fluid to use off the shelf? ATF is not recommended in the manual.
May just grab a quart from the dealership unless...

GM VehicleCare cold climate power steering fluid which is partial synthetic is probably top quality stuff. Or even the stand GM fluid is good. Probably better than the typical Valvoline fluid, as it seems to run quieter in PS systems than the off-the-shelf stuff. It's kind of pricey though. http://paceperformance.com/i-5134256-123...-container.html.

Valvoline PSF claims it meets GM specifications, I don't know I use it most of the time, but just don't think it is as good as the FF or VehicleCare. You shouldn't use ATF if PSF is recommend though.

I'm not sure who makes the GM or if there is a lower cost brand-name version of it available. I just don't know of any other supplier that makes as good a PSF.

Redline has a PSF, I have a couple quarts but have not used it yet.

I actually like pennzoil PSF, which comes in a small bottle and is bright blue.

It is not HD. The GM stuff is cheap enough ($8/qt) so I'll probably grab one of them. Thanks.

In my GM, Redline and AC Delco Arctic PSF made the steering feel notchy in the summer. I think that both were too thin. I have settled on Royal Purple and am currently satisfied.

I don't think the GM cold weather PSF is available here, not that I would need it. Where can I find the Royal Purple fluid?

I see it in speed shops and in Pep Boys.

Any GM dealer can order AC Delco Arctic PSF. It is also available online.

I get Royal Purple at O'Reilly's. It is also available online.

My favorite PSF for GM's is the old Valvoline Synthetic PSF. However, it is no longer produced. If you find a dusty bottle somewhere, either buy it or let me know -- I'll buy it.

I've had good luck with Valvoline PSF in a vehicle that doesn't seem fussy ('01 GP with 202k miles now) and Redline PSF in a vehicle that had cold weather issues prior to the Redline ('96 Buick wagon, 173k miles now).

To default: Have you used M1 ATF for long periods of time in a GM? I have not because GM suggests that ATFs are not compatible with all of their seals over time. I have M1 ATF in my wife's Mercury. I think that it is great stuff in Ford PS systems. Do you KNOW that M1 ATF will not cause any of the issued that GM suggests that it may.

Which ATFs have you tried and in which cars specifically if i might ask?
