Looks like they're giving a local gas station a refresh by me. It looked like they were drilling a well where the gas pumps were. What's the deal with that? They had a big diesel water pump running over the 4th of July weekend until like Monday or Tuesday when they went back to worming on it. What would they be drilling into the tanks? I cant remember if they replaced the tank or not either. I think they did.

If the water table is too high in that area, drilling a well and pumping out the water will lower the water level so that they can dig a hole that doesn't fill up with water. It would be hard to set a fiberglass tank if it is floating.

Maybe drilling for the sampling tubes? Underground tanks have to have sampling tubes to allow sampling below and around the tanks to detect leakage.

I could have sworn I've seen gas stations with pvc pipes cut flush with the concrete and theyre usually on the little island where the pumps are. On bigger stations I think the tanks are further out in the parking lot and not under the pumps

Makes sense. They had a pump going for like 5 days. That thing burned oil, had a smokey haze the whole time. I almost thought it was about to catch on fire when I first saw it and almost called the fire department lol

Yep. Dewater the ground, excavate, pour a concrete pad, attach the tank to the pad then back fill fast before the ground water comes back to level. Pretty easy but when it goes bad it can be spectacular fail. imagine a fishing with a bobber. ;-)
