And if you can't get a deal on the Toyota, Honda or Subaru ultra high VI 0W-20's there's PP 0W-20. Failing getting a deal on those oils there is always the fall back position of M1 and Valvoline.
And then there's Mazda's new 0W-20.

Lots of choice really.

The 5W30 I was referring to was for my 88 E-150 which calls for a 30 grade oil and wasn't back spec'd. I have no intentions of using anything but a 20 grade oil for the Jeep. Sorry for the confusion. The Edge 0W20 SM was the best IMO of what I tried in the Jeep, but at this point I'm no longer impressed with it. I have time before I deplete my SM stash. As of now PP in a 0W20 is nowhere to be found, the Honda and Toyota 0W20 oil sold by the dealers around here is priced off the wall. I can look into the Mazda and Subaru products but have a feeling the local dealers will be charging off the wall prices as well. Ebay is a possibility, but then there's the shipping hassle. I'm interested in M1 0W20 but their PDS for the SN oil isn't out yet. I'll wait and see I guess.

Go with the M1. You won't be disappointed.

I'm curious to see the 5w20 SN PDS too.

I'm leaning towards the M1 0W20 SN, PDS pending. I still have a good supply of Edge 0W20 SM on hand, it's a shame they had to mess with it.

Very helpful post, thank you. Buying blindly into brand X is always a good idea.

If there were an eye roll smiley, I'd put it here.

It is interesting that Castrol in Europe, or at least UK, provide more data on their oils than they do in the USA. Why would that be the case? Check out some sheets from Castrol outside the USA.

Maybe they aren't as embarrassed by the specs of their Euro oils.

The fine print on every page says "Product Data - Castrol GTX High Mileage". And most pages contain less than 1/2 page of printing. It's a true embarrassment for BP. Will be interesting to see how long it takes them to fix this, or if they care enough to bother.

I noticed the GTX HM print on the bottom. GTX HM doesn't come in 0W20. Edge 0w20 is what I am using now. I have reason to believe the PDS might be accurate for the 0W20 Edge. I also have reason to believe unless there is some major screw up with that PDS sheet when my stash is used up I'll be looking for another oil. I hadn't used Castrol Oil since the 70's. I thought Edge 0W20 SM was good based on the specs so tried it, and really liked it. Now it is a totally different oil, and a disappointment IMO. According to the PDS it's hardly worth the effort to get it. Life goes on. Come on Pennzoil get a 0W20 to the market, not PP via mail order.

I emailed Castrol asking about the PDS for the new EDGE with titanium. They confirmed for 5w30, the pour point is -27F/-33C.
They also sent me the PDS of the previous Edge, and acknowledged that previous PDS did not list pour point. My question is this:

Previous Edge 5w30 has a CCS of 4300@-30C, and low temp pumping viscosity at 18,000@-35C. These are impressive numbers for low temp spec. (and pour point had to be below -35C). So now they released the new EDGE with -33C pour point, the low temp numbers just can not be better than the old Edge. Agree?

How does one judge an oil's low temp performance?

Bruce, that's Castrol Edge with Syntec Power which I believe is different than straight Castrol Edge; isn't Castrol marketing downright nuts!
Anyway the 0W-20 stat's are much better with a 174 VI but the 5w30 is worse with a dino level 159 VI.

Sorry, some days I shouldn't post anything. Yes, when you confuse the oil guys, consumers don't stand a chance.

Me either. I'll finish my Edge SM 0W20 stash and move on to another brand. I'll probably do the same when I'm done with the 5W30 Edge too. They had a good product and killed it IMO.

I could be wrong, but might they just be listing either the minimum stats for a particular group, or saying "OK" meaning the same thing?

What that PDS says to me is that their oils meet the minimum requirements. Hardly an impressive distinction.

Afton Chemical, one of the chemical companies that supply additive packages to oil blenders, created the Liquid Titanium. If ConocoPhillips didn't buy the name as well as the product, then Afton can let anyone use the name. And, by now, maybe others have similar products that don't step on Afton's patents.
