Jeff

I believe it says "patented process" on the Edge w/Titanium, so apparently not.

wow, I thought the first PDS was a mis-print....guess not!

Based on the (limited) information in the PDS, and can't see any reason to use this 0W20 versus pretty much any of the other available alternatives. I'm guessing this oil costs them a lot less to manufacture. Low VI, high pour point...all around it looks like a cheaper oil.

That's fine by me, as it wasn't available around my parts anyway.

Good grief, CASTROL...why bother?

Guess I'll stick with your competitors who appear to desire my business by providing data that I can make reasonable use of.

I'd rather give my money to the U.S. XOM than BP.

Same here. I only did one run with Edge when it first came out and that was it. M1 from day 1.

Seems like every thread your saying that, starting to think maybe you work for their marketing group! Lol, I'm only joking of course!

Thanks for posting. It's a disappointment for me. I have enough of the 0W20 SM Edge for 3 more oil changes. I'm hoping Pennzoil gets their act together and gets a good 0W20 into retail locations near me. The SN Edge pour point, 40C, VI, and 100C numbers all took a hit IMO. What is OK? LOL. Just when I thought I found an oil I could stick with, this PDS kills it. Oh well, its only oil, and on to another brand of 0W20 for me. How was API SN an improvement in this case? Did I read too much into this?

Edit:

Just wondering why does it say product data GTX High Mileage, on the bottom of pages 1,2&3?

Ok I was thinking; Ok, Edge appealed to me re. all the good that appears on BITOG, Ok I was going to take another try, Ok I could use it in my Mazda, in the Syntex flavor, Ok but after the pds listing of Ok that makes my decision easy, Ok I will pass this time. OK??? Not a surprise re. a BP product IMHO>

That has to be some sort of record for an oil formulator; from having the highest VI (220) for their SM 0W-20 to the lowest (161) for their SN 0W-20.
In fact their is no advantage of their 0W-20 over Castrol's own 5W-20 (which also had a drop in VI from 175 to 161) unless the 5W-20 grade has a higher HTHS vis' but then we don't know what the HTHS vis' is for any Castrol products.

About the only oil worth considering is their 5w30 and that would be if it was a lot cheaper than PP, PU or M1 to name just three other syn's.

There may be an obvious answer to this question, but why does a gallon of the 5w20 weigh more than the others? 7.807 vs. 7.129. That's well over half a pound.

That pretty much sums up my feelings. I might stay with the 5W30, buying it only on sale. Boy did they wreck the 0W20. The poor pour point really stands out, along with the major drop in VI.

A cheap 5W-20 dino would be better than going with a 5w30 oil.
And if you can't get a deal on the Toyota, Honda or Subaru ultra high VI 0W-20's there's PP 0W-20. Failing getting a deal on those oils there is always the fall back position of M1 and Valvoline.
And then there's Mazda's new 0W-20.

Lots of choice really.
