Never before in my life have I seen such negative sentiment as I do right now. Everywhere I turn, the prevailing mood is overwhelmingly sour. Prices up, employment down, doom and gloom everywhere. I don't even remember such negative sentiment in the year following Sept. 11 2001.

Is there a way out of this hole? Nobody seems to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

I was negative years ago..can you imagine how I feel? The most frustrating part of it is that our leaders all have their fiddles and are fiddling while Rome burns.

Good news doesn't sell, btw I liquidated 75% of my stocks on Tuesday and slapped most of it into BEARX I truely do think things are going to get much worse before they get better. If you work for the man do not be afraid to ask how they doing with the worsening economy. The last thing anyone needs is to be laid off in an impossible job market.

I agree its very down beat right now, and with the presidential prospects that we have I can understand it.

I remember things being even worse back in the days after the "Jimmy Carter" presidency, interest rates were around 12% for homes and new cars 17%, used car loans at 21% employment was bad cant recall the % on that, and we had the nuclear stand off and cold war, back then Wallmart was and American institution, yeah it was gloomy.

Things sure have a way of recycling, just hope things don't get worse before they get better.

The prevailing mood from people I've talked to recently feel we're not at the bottom yet. I think it's going to take some airlines going away forever to get the government to help on gas prices, which right now could be the biggest problem across the board.
Although the homebuilding market certainly isn't helping me personally.

I do! I see a bright future with a lot of neat cars that are extremely fast and you can run them with your garage door shut!

People working hard on self-fulfilling prophecies.

Come on folks, be optimistic and go with the Gary Allan kind of hope: Captain Trips will wipe out 75% of the third world (before we become part of it) for the benefit of the rest of us.

Personally, having one of the best years in my 33 year old business ever! In the auto repair industry a slight downturn in the economy is almost allways good, as people repair and continue to drive older vehicles. When things really get bad, they'll still need someone to wrap the bailing wire and boot the tire carcasses. See ya at the bank.

alreadygone, I too have a job like that. The worse things get, the more people want security systems. Last 2 careers were dependent on good times, finally got smart in my old age.

The sirens are screaming and the fires are howling
Way down in the valley tonight
There's a man in the shadows with a gun in his eye
And a blade shining oh so bright
There's evil in the air and there's thunder in the sky
And a killer's on the bloodshot streets
