I switched to M1 0w30 (from M1 5w30) in my Ranger, so far it runs fine and feels a little smoother. Mostly in search of better mpg, heck, anything might help.

I've sent for the UOA kits, I'll post results when I get them.

Ford likes thin oils apparently.....my 94 T-Bird with the 4.6 SOHC runs best on Amsoil Series 2000 0W-30. Much smoother and no more morning lifter/chain tensioner clatter (did this on all other oils, dino and M1 too!).

Since when is GC hard to find in Canada??? Well maybe down in Toronto. Around here, it is everywhere, but then again, the vechiles around here have to be ready to sit at -40 and below temperatures for days at a time, so 0W oils probably more popular around here. I can find GC at almost any store I walk into around here, and the only oil I can't find is the American Syntec 0W30, which is a good thing.

While GC is not totally proven yet, it is nice to find an oil that is supposedly a group 4 and possibly even a group 5, that is nice and cheap. People wonder why not just get Mobil 1, well it's much harder to find and quite a bit more money. Long live GC!!!!

GC 0w30 is not hard to find around here at all, which is why I'm curious Dr.T said that. He knows full well the Walmart here in our area stocks tons of it. And every other Walmart around, and a lot of Canadian Tires also stock it. It's very easy to find here in Toronto now!

Ah yes, I just reread his post more closely and it does now look like he was referring to M1 0w30 being hard to find. This is true.

I have found it at the Esso Station right beside the Walmart in my area though.

I'm giving the oil a chance. It's not impossible the ECU needs to break in. The ECU's on Focuses are notoriously sensitive and some people reset them manually to save time especially when doing mods or installing things like a new spark plug, clearing CELs after making a repair, etc. So we'll see how it goes on the butt dyno over time.

3xSHO: Motorcraft FL-2005, supposedly with dual bypass valves. And yeah, it got cold the day I did the change and has been frigid since. Focuses are notorious for thriving on cold though. The colder the better, much to the dismay of many a would-be summer street racer.

Patman: The east end of Toronto in Scarborough has a hard time finding it. The 3 Walmarts near my house don't stock it at all. Of a couple Canadian Tires in the area, only 2 stock it in small amounts, and both are currently out. Other CanTires in the area don't have it at all. All these places however are happy to sell you a fine selection of 10w30 dino in various brands.

Seriously dude. If you think that D60A2s are glued to the road, it's time to live a little.

They are possibly some of the worst "performance" tires available. Try some Neovas, Azenises, S03s, T1Ss, etc. Those Dunlops are also incredibly mushy tires.

It would be nice if this were a trend and Castrol plans to also roll out the GC 0W-20 for NA, especially if it is at the upper end of the 20 weight and is shear stable. This would be a great oil for my Honda:
GC 0W-20

Patman, any chance you can get a data sheet on this oil like you did for the 0W-30?

Today it was 18F when I left for work. While the engine is doing just fine with 5W40 synthetic Redline oil the OEM fluid in the trans is thick as chilled honey. This next payday I am going to order some MTL for this trans. It is only going to get colder and colder. I can use 75W90 GL4 or GL5. I am thinking about 50/50 blend of MTL and MT90.

I wish I could, but I forget the link to the website where I found the email contact for the Castrol rep from Germany who helped me out the last time. Maybe someone on here has that info? I got lucky that time and found someone at a German Castrol office who also could speak English. (although the document they sent me was only in German, and I had GMan II translate it for me)

Castrol makes a 0w40 which some of us suspect might be extremely similar to GC but with just a tiny bit more VII in it. It's right around 12.9cst at 100c I believe, so it's a really thin 40wt.

Patman, exactly where is this Esso station? Near the Square One Wal-Mart? Let me know ASAP please. Thx.

Sorry for the late response, but I saw it at the Esso station located near the 401 and Winston Churchill. It's expensive there though, which makes me wonder why you'd choose it over GC 0w30, which is far superior and the Walmart right beside there has tons of it (although I cleaned out 6 more liters from them this morning)

After the ARX rinse cycle of 5w30 Penz, I changed my oil to GC. Wow - its really green! Like almost antifreeze green!

I do see a mileage improvement over the dino. I got about 25 mile more out of a tank. Which roughly brings me up about 1.25 mpg. My truck sounds different, as if its not working as hard or that the oil quieting it down. But it vibrates more at idle. Very strange.

Back to the consumption issue, it seems to be burning it. It used almost a half a quart in a couple days. Granted it has seen some hard duty with the snow here, lots of idling, cold weather, and being in 4 wheel drive.

Patman, thanks for the quick info. I actually got lucky and found the last bottle of M1 0w30 at the Esso on the corner of Hurontario and Birtannia. It was weird thou, this one has a silver cap and the previous bottle of M1 0w30 I saw had a white cap
dunno.gif

The reason I wanted M1 0w30 is because I'm currently running M1 5w30, but I'm going to top it up over the next 5k with M1 0w30. I thought I'd keep it a little more consistent with the same brand. I'm running the Fram X2 filter, so I'm not doing a full change until 10k.

The 4 bottles of the 0w30 M1 I saw at the Winston Churchill/401 Esso all had the silver cap. Maybe the white cap was the Trisynthetic version?
