I received my filter wrap from Outerwear yesterday. Custom made to fit my cone filter that came with my K&N FIPK2. Everything came out to a total of $21 I believe. Reason I got it was because of all the info I was reading on these forums about how teh K&N filter does not filter out some dirt particles. Me being the dummy I am I cleaned my cone filter and put it back on without any oil.....I never liked oiling my filter since they always dripped.....well I looked inside my intake tubing a couple of weeks ago and saw a considerable amount of dust that had gotten in the intake.....so I immediately pulled off the filter, oiled it properly, gave my car an oil change and got on the phone with K&N. The tech told me they didn't have a filter cover for my filter so I gave a call to Outerwear filter wraps and they custom made me one to fit the dimensions of my cone filter. I guess I'll have to get an oil analysis to see if it really does stop fine particles from going past the filter. On the bag that I got yesterday it said "stops particles from size .005 micron and up" I THINK that's what it said. Unless you can measure dust some other way. I forgot Outerwears website but if you call K&N they can give you a hand. It comes in many nifty colors including pink...I myself got a red cover and it looks so oh so purty in my engine bay.

Check this out to see what I'm talking about.

I just figured the people on these boards would appreciate these covers since the priority on here is the protection of your engine and giving your oil the most bang for the buck. And if they're old news please don't shoot me.

Luckily,

K&N make a wrap for my exposed cone filter. Just got it in yesterday. I really believe that people just don't know how to use an oiled air filter. There have been EXCELLENT UOA's with K&N air filters and there have been HORRIBLE UOA's as well. People clean them out too much...They should look dirty and left alone. The fine particulates trapped by the oil become part of the filtering process. Anyways, my filter is still red, once it is "dirty", I'll put the wrap on, and then periodically clean only the wrap...I'm looking forward to next Spring's UOA!

You know you're not the first person I've heard say that....hmmmmm.

But then you'd figure the fine particles may be an integral part of filtering but then again it may also not allow the filter to flow as well.

Old topic but wanna update everyone. The outerwears wrap has been on the air filter for about 3000 miles now. I have it on my K&N FIPK2 filter and I just went through a chicago winter. Yesterday while working on the car I looked at the filter wrap and as I rubbed my fingers across I had black dirt rubbing off on my fingers. I even saw salt and sand type particles on it. So I took it off and look at the actual K&N filter. The filter looked as clean as it was when I washed it 3000 miles ago. I like this wrap a lot. I know I didn't need it but for people running CAI's underneath their engine bays it would be very useful especially since it can be waterproof coated. No sales motivation here. Just my experience.

EDIT: It also does wonders for someone trying to follow a color theme under the hood.
