I've been running Ultra 5w30 for the past 2000 KMs in my Jeep Liberty. 3.7L Powertech engine.

I've noticed that the engine is much more noisier with Ultra vs GC and Edge that I've ran in the past. Been using the same make/model of filter(Mobil 1 M1-209) with all 3 oils(new filter each time of course).

Has anyone noticed more noise while running Ultra?

i switched from edge to ultra and noticed that my engine was somewhat noisier with it vs. the edge.

Interesting. I just replaced EDGE with Ultra and think my Nissan's QR25DE engine is a bit quieter. I used the same DENSO filter, so that's not a variable.

it all depends on the engine, certain engines run better on some oils than others. so far castrol edge is my favorite oil but i sleep better at night knowing ultra is wedged between and covering all of my expensive parts that go round and round or up and down.

You got that right. And in my particular engine, (truck) I can't tell any difference...or else my hearing is worse than I thought.

This reminds me of some of the old Mobil 1 threads, LOL!

People can infer what they want from that statement

I switched from PP to Ultra in the Corvette and the engine sounds and feels exactly the same as before (not noisy at all IMHO)

I've now switched two vehicles to Edge. Both used M1, and PP, one used M1, PP, and Amsoil ASM. Edge is the quietest in both applications. I haven't tried PU, at this point, I think I'll stick with Edge. Speaking with a Bitog buddy he's having the same observations as me.

My Corolla is slightly more noisy with the Ultra 5w30 than the Edge. However, it is not grossly more noisy, just a little more cold start "chatter"; not uncommon for the 1.8L in my particular year model. Once at temp, it is smooooooth as silk! As a side note, the Ultra's 5w30 viscosity is almost that of a 5w-20; hence, less noise on a cold start. My corolla does not burn the Ultra as fast as it did the Edge. I am going to switch to PP on the next change as it is cheaper and, in my opinion, just as good.

How do you figure? Ultra's Viscosity @ 40*C, cSt = 61.9 and its Viscosity @ 100*C, cSt = 10.3. The Viscosity @ 40*C, cSt is slightly higher than average for 5w30 full synthetics.

If anything, it's EDGE that's closer to a 5W-20. It's Viscosity @ 40*C, cSt = 54.17 and its Viscosity @ 100*C, cSt = 9.8.

not very impressed with the ultra, i dont think its as good as they say, i havent seen any difference at all between ultra and m1, is edge recommended because id be interested in trying it, just wondering if you guys think its worth the few extra $ over m1

I think the EDGE 5w-20 in mine is a little noisier than the M1 0w-20 in it prior. I will probably put in Ultra 5w-20 soon as the last change before winter.

I think the Edge is worth the extra $$. I'm very pleased with it in the two vehicles I'm using it in as I already mentioned. If you watch sales you can get a good deal on it with a top quality filter, which is what I do.

I'm not sure if they are near you or not, but you might be able to get someone to price match them if not. HTH
