I know you guys love pictures of used cheapo filters as much as I do, so I'm contributing a few.

The car is a 98 Integra GSR, about 139k miles on it now. I drive "spirited" which means it's not a rare occurrence when I rev the engine right up to the 8200 rpm cutoff... so lots of higher pressure oil situations. So I like to [censored] around in my ol' four banger, don't hold it against me.

Fram Extended Guard (OCOD) - about 6100 miles over about 6 months with Supertech 10w30. I'm quite happy with how this filter performed. The anti drain back valve seemed to perform really well; the filter was totally full and lots of oil poured out from above the filter when I removed it 3 hours after driving.

SuperTech - about 3400 miles over about 4 months with Supertech 10w30. This was an early change due to needing to swap out a bunch of gaskets to fix a few leaks. The oil was reused to top off my last change above at 3.0k and 4.5k (this engine burns off about a quart every 2k miles). The anti drain back valve on this one sucked; the filter was almost empty and no oil came out from above the filter only a couple hours after the engine was last running.

I also didn't like the cheap bypass valve on this one. It's a mechanism where the difference in oil pressure is supposed to press down on the center hole, letting oil stream by the cap. Seems too cheap even for my comfort level, especially the way I like to rev up the engine.

Supertechs are all over the chart though, the other smaller model that fits my car is a much better filter with a nice looking bypass and seemingly more solid construction (this one came of my friend's element, the ADBV performed much better as well):

while some others are even cheaper ecores, all for the same low price. At least frams are consistent.

In summary, seeing as I get almost all of my oil supplies at Walmart, I'm happy with and will continue to use Fram 'OCOD's. I'll pick and choose Supertechs based on the model. Next in though is a MicroGard cheapo I picked up somewhere along the line that looks exactly like the Fram pictured here, without the orange paint and grip tape. I'm planning on going 7500 miles with it, as per my car manual (I'm a reformed 3-4k oil changer, minus the honda suggested one filter for every two oil changes; with cheapos I'd rather just change it every time).

Thanks for the nice writeup and pics.

So the Supertech 7317 is an OK filter? Lots of Hondas use that model.

You mean Extra Guard.

The Extended Guard is a very good high-end filter.

The Super Tech actually looks to be reasonably good & better than the Fram OCOD. That said the OCOD is fine for up to 6,000 miles but I would not stretch it much farther.

oops, yeah i of course meant extraguard. there's no edit feature to fix my mistake. the extendguard does look much nicer, too fancy for my tastes

yeah the supertech 7317 seems to be higher quality than the supertech 3593A, both of which fit my car. I was too lazy to cut it open though, takes forever with a hack saw. maybe another day.

Anything is possible with Walmart's buying power. There is no reason that more than one company could make the ST filters, or it could be a newer supplier for some of the stock.

Looks like the "OCOD" did just fine! Seems to be in fine shape, one of the better looking ones posted for sure.

So the pic of the baseplate in the last pic is the 7317? That center tube looks like the Baldwins, although I think someone posted another brand that had the same style of punchouts. Who else uses that style.

Thanx for posting!
