From How to Lose a Beer Belly

Quote:
What’s Inside a Beer Belly?
The term itself is misleading, implying that a protruding belly is solely the result of excessive alcohol consumption.

Here’s the truth:

A pot belly is often the result of a severely blocked colon, caused by years of buildup of waste inside the body. When John Wayne died they found 60 pounds of compacted hard fecal matter stuck to the lining of his intestines.

Observational evidence suggests this is the result of excessive mucus secretions, stuck food particles, environmental toxins, constipation, etc. Removing this from the belly very often slims the beer gut down significantly. I know, I’ve done this before many times myself. To the right is a picture of what comes out. Forgive the crass picture, but you wanted advice that works, didn’t you?

So the trick is to remove the built-up waste in the colon, and then to follow a sensible diet and mild exercise routine, so that the build-up doesn’t continue.

I have heard " watch your waist not your weight" and think there is a lot of truth there,
I have been working out 8 months with one hour of weight lifting and 30-40 minutes cardio, 3 times a week. I have cut down on food just a little but mostly eat what I want, have only lost 8 pounds but have gone down 2 notches on my belt, added lots of muscle, and sugar is way better
At this rate I expect to lose the gut completely in about 6 more months, and think doing it this way will make it harder to ever get it back.

Talk to any doctor, nutritionist, proctologist, colorectal specialist, etc. and you'll find this is just another urban legend. Avoiding processed foods, cutting down on meat, refined sugar, carbohydrates, and eating a lot of fiber is definitely a good idea but not because these things cause pounds of feces to build up in your system.

It really is just a bunch of junk. There's no buildup in your colon. Have you ever watched videos of a colonoscopy? I've seen a few very clean colons of some old people who I can assure you had never had a colon cleanse and weren't on the organic wagon, either and there was no mythical sludge.

Google the BBC series "the truth about food" then watch it. you'll learn a ton about food.

It helped me a LOT.

Find foods that you LIKE (key, you won't want to eat things that are awful to you) that are low in sodium, fat, etc. Fruits, veg's, fish, lean meat (no, not McD's) all count. I've lost 3 lbs in 3 days this week hopping back on my "diet" (oooh I hate that word).

Simply eating things you like that work FOR you rather than AGAINST YOU is the key, and keeping the calories in check. I actually eat MORE this way, it's all better and much lower calories....just not all at once at dinner with 2 plates of great home-cooked food. Small "meals" of things you enjoy that are good for you throughout the day keeps hunger in check.

EXACTLY! The evidence is right in front of our eyes that it doesn't work.

a dozen White Castles or Krystals (w/o the mustard) will clean you out better than any of these Auto-Rx-like colon cleaners.

The key is to keep an eye on your caloric intake such that you don't want to eat too little also, otherwise your metabolism will slow down. I'd probably aim for about 2000 to 2200 calories a day, but if you're doing a ton of cardio you might want to up that amount to 2500 to 3000.

Lifting weights definitely does help you get thinner, as having more muscle will help you burn fat more efficiently too. Just keep in mind that if you're doing a lot of weight training that you shouldn't be concerned about the numbers on the scale dropping every week because of the extra muscle mass. With a lot of weight training you might not see your weight drop that fast but you'll see your waist size go down a lot! (and that's a more important indicator of health than the number on the scale anyhow)

I used to drink soda all day. Then I went to drinking only water and drank alot of it, I still do (because fridgerator water is good) but I didnt lose anything.

And I hear this about gaining muscle will burn fat all the time and I simply do not believe in it. Look at all of the World's Strongest Man competitors who have the most muscle on the planet and all but one (Marius Pudzianowski) are not good looking at all.
