Dollar Tree is getting out of the oil business, as keeping the price below 1.00 is not possible any more. There is 10-40 and 30W being shipped until it runs out. I do not belive these are the "blend" formulas.

Only the 5W-20, 5w30, and 10w30 viscosities made by ConocoPhillips are the "synthetic blend" formulae. Sadly, I suspect Mike's information may prove to be correct. There've been scattered rumors from BITOGers in states other than Texas to the effect that Dollar Tree has or soon will discontinue carrying these oils due to wholesale price hikes. Corporate greed, world political realities, or a combination - things, they are a' changin'.

I called Dollar Tree looking for 10-30 SM before I made the trip over to the store. The last time I went and purchased some, I bought them out, 9 quarts total.

The person that I talked to told me the only oil on the shelf was a 30W and a 10-40. I asked if they were expecting anymore and he told me no. I asked him why, he told me they are getting out of the oil business as they can not sell it for 1.00 anymore as the cost is higher than 1.00.

I am not off base, I asked a question and got an answer. Maybe he is off base.

This week's Lube Report noted that South Korean "SK" raised the price of Group III base stock by 8 cents/gallon. Isn't SK ConocoPhillips' Group III supplier?

I hit another Dollar Tree today. Loaded up 50 quarts of 10w30 in my cart before the manager came over and asked if I wanted some cases from the back.

Heck yeah!

He brought out 3 additional cases. PLUS....there was still another 100 quarts on the shelf easy. I'll go back next week.

Sorry to say that the dollar tree in Keyser West Virginia burned to the groud about 2 months back. Really true. The friction was so great in the store from the rush to buy motor oil that the floors ignited and the rest is history. Jokes aside it really did burn down. Now being rebuilt.

Dollar Trees in my area have only the dino 10W30 and 10W40 left in stock. I found no syn-blend at any of the 5 local stores that I went to.

No big deal to me though, I bought 2 cases of the 10W30 dino from them. Even though it's not the syn-blend, $1 is still a good price on the regular stuff.

I think, originally, a connection existed between SK Oils & ConocoPhillips, but it is the other Korean refiner, S-Oils, that is currently the Grp III base oils supplier for CP.

ConocoPhillips Grp III Base Oils

S-Oil utilizes the ExxonMobil catalyst - See This Lube Report Article - to produce the low cost, 120-130 VI Grp III base oils.

- As I remember, this was API's reason for going directly from the SJ to SL service grade, to avoid any reference or confusion associated with the SK Oils Corporation.

This is amazing. I was doing Mobil 1 changes that cost me 24 bucks in oil each time. Now that 24 bucks buys me FOUR oil changes. Conoco's stat sheet on this oil is nothing to sneeze at. I have no reservations using this oil in Michigan's winter.

Screw the store - all that buck-a-quart high Group III content synthetic blend up in smoke. It's 'nuff to drive a grown man to drink. (Well, 'round here maybe that isn't saying too much . . .)

earlier today I was at a wallfart in my region that I don't frequent as often as some of the others... noticed a shelf full of 5W30 TA synblend @ $1.24/ea. (maybe 10qts worth). I was tempted to buy it up for my rodeo to use through the winter months, (I run heavier oils in summer).

At $1.24/qt, this beats the pants off of every dino oil (price wise) sold at wally with the exception of supertech, and it's a synblend.

should I go back tomaro while i'm in town and buy it up? I haven't seen this stuff at any other locations in my area, wondering if it is just waiting to get sold out.

I suspect WallyWorld's in it for the long haul (unless the stuff just flat-out doesn't sell - WallyWorld department managers are ruthless at not re-ordering slow or non-moving stock). Still if you will use it and have room to store it, why not buy it?

The 2.2 is a good engine. I use Havoline 10w30 in my 2002 Cavalier 2200 OHV engine. FWIW I saw an early 90s Cavalier in the junkyard with over 300,000 miles on it.
