A brand new Corolla/Fit/Civic is not "a few knotches above a Yaris"....I've driven all these and they are just at most a half notch above....and these cost thousands more then a Yaris yet are just a few hundred $$ better....so I don't understand why anyone would pay a few thousand more for a car that is a tiny bit bigger and drives a tiny bit getter and gets worse gas milage over a Yaris....
The Yaris is best in class, and providing the lowest cost of ownership of ANY car sold in America new.
It has a bullet proof 1.5L engine that has gone 300,000 miles often, and as evident by many on several forums.
Someone mentioned "rattles". This is a lie because there is nothing in the interior to rattle...everything is plastic, cloth, or felt, so what is there to rattle? Nothing.
The center console is ingenious and makes for a great driving experience.
Mine is a 2007 hatchback, and it gets 46 MPG on the highway, besting EPA. It has 76,000 miles, zero problems, and it runs like new. The interior still looks like new, no damage, no marks, rips, etc. It has power mirrors, CD, power windows, and it was just $12,800 out the door new.
Someone said the Yaris is very stable at 3 digit speeds. This is profoundly untrue times 100. At 75 or under it handles fine however.
I find it foolish when someone that wants a get-to-work economy car would rather buy a used Civic, Corolla or other, when for the same $$ one can have a brand new Yaris, which has MORE DRIVER SIDE ROOM then the latest Corolla, and one can haul more stuff in the Yaris HB then a 4 door brand new Corolla.
The ride of the Yaris is perhaps 98% the same as a Corolla, so why would anyone buy a new or used Corolla/Civic over a new Yaris is beyound me...only those that never drove a Yaris would do such a thing.
You want to save money on cost of ownership? Gas? Want a hugely dependable car? Want a car that drives very well, and will drive like new at 200,000 miles? Get a brand new Yaris....$12,800 OTD cannot be beat...
