Torx sockets/bits abound but apparently a lot of these automotive fasteners are actually torx plus... What is a good kit for a home user? It wont see a TON of use but in Michigan we get a lot of salt rust so I'm willing to pay a little bit for quality tools that won't fail me and end up costing more in the end anyways.

Torx plus is not particularly common, at least on domestic or asian vehicles with the exception of some cylinder head bolts that I can think of. I use torx every day but I would have to dig for a set of torx plus. I am in the rust belt as well.

I bought the set from Capri as an addition to other ones I have, it is really convenient. The quality is very good and even includes T70 which is a must for Subaru owners and only cost $70.
Capri Master Torx

I bought a Mac set 20 years ago & rarely use them, I have a 1/2" drive Snap-on TP50 for 4L60 bellhousing to case bolts & Ford bed/box bolts.
Yeah I was thinking Ford beds and weren't some GM seat tracks and seat belts TP47? Or was it just T47?

Torx Plus has been around for atleast a couple decades. Fun fact Torx Plus is the official fastener of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Superior to regular Torx or old fashion bit types. It will show up eventually in the car world but it’s very popular in other fields.

Agreed, but $200 doesn’t even pay for an hour of shop labor. Gripedge technology generally works very well.
I love the Gripedge ones and use them a lot but a T70, 17mm and 19mm allen socket alone cost more than the whole set of Capri.
For the average home gamer the Capri set will work great but you could add specific Gripedge sizes common to a specific vehicles eg Subaru T70, T25 and T30 etc for many Euro cars if corrosion is an issue.

My experience is when you need Torx plus, nobody has them locally available.

This is the set I have, not a great set, but peace of mind having them in the tool box

That's external Torx plus....which i still wonder if that's what I Do Cars should have been using to tear down a Nissan 3.8 in another thread. But I digress :)
