This tornado was on the ground for 70 minutes and peaked around Seneca, MO - 1 mile wide and EF-4 damage. Pretty incredible, the power of nature. From clear blue skies to damaging tornado in 20 minutes.

Yep Drew..I took the pics...I jumped on the bike and rode over..70° today..people everywhere cleaning up the mess...were bracing for the next storm..will keep ya posted...Joe

I'm a chaser and a Skywarn spotter so I keep up with severe weather. Hope you guys in AR get the rest of the season off. Man, mother nature has had a bullseye on you folks.

http://www.spc.noaa.gov is a great website to look at each day or every couple of days to monitor when severe weather is likely to hit...and where. Look at the convective outlooks - that is where The National Weather Service puts out it's nationwide outlook for severe weather. 3 days out for precise forecasting and 4-8 days out for more general forecasting. They use slight, moderate, and high risk overall ratings. Moderate and high risk - watch out! They actually only use high risk maybe twice a year.

For instance, as of today, they day 2 outlook (for tomorrow, May 13th) is at slight - but based on their wording, and my own forecasting, along with other storm watchers, it's likely they will issue a moderate risk tomorrow for eastern Kansas/western Missouri, meaning that the tornado threat will once again be enhanced. In the same areas that were nailed on the 10th.

Often times, when you see the worst Mother Nature has to give,
you see the best in human nature. Neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers, many times even before rescue workers reach victims.

May God Bless all affected by the tornadoes, and those who lend a hand afterward. I salute you!!

Thanks Drew...ya sure you want to do this type of work??

I love doing it...it's actually just a springtime hobby. Don't make any money from it. Quite the opposite - especially with gas prices where they are. Skywarn is just a nationwide group of volunteer storm spotters.

Witnessing an actual discrete tornadic supercell storm from a spot where you can see the structure - it is a sight to behold. It fascinates me - but on the other hand, I also call in storm reports and if I ever get into a position where I witness damage and lives are in danger, I'd go through the ruble in no time flat to look for survivors. Never been in that position yet.

This morning when the Today show went live after sunrise this morning, I broke down in tears and prayed to God for these poor folks. Please donate to the Red Cross or Salvation Army for this disaster.

I was in Joplin 5 weeks ago for a weekend meeting with church leaders from my church. By the looks of the damage the hotel where my wife and I stayed is gone. It was close to the St. Johns Hosp. Two families we know of have lost their homes, but no injuries, thankfully.
