I am using PENRITE HPR 10 10W-50 in my BA XR6T.
I just bought 20l and have 1l, so just enough for 3 oil changes.

It generally doesnt burn oil.

But, if I had to add a liter at one time, is there any other oil that is safe to mix, or is that not an option?

Obviously the same oil is the best oil, but topping up with something else reasonable shouldn't be a problem. Your engine spec is 15W40, so that's what I would get.

I just keep an eye out for a good mineral or semi-synthetic oil on sale, and buy a 5L for top ups. Recently I've seen Castrol GTX UltraClean 15W40 and Valvoline EngineArmour 15W40 at very good prices (at $20 or less for 5L). Both are rated API SN/CF and ACEA A3/B3/B4, both are semi-synthetic.

It's these quality European ACEA A3/B3 or A3/B4 specs that separate these name brand oils from things like Gulf Western- Premium Gold 15w40 which only carries API SN-Plus, SN/CF (no ACEA spec).

Awesome, thanks mate, will keep an eye out.
I think its only used 1l in the 80,000kms I have had it, so its not something regular.
And that was a trip across the Nullabor.

BTW just to say that 15W40 has a higher minimum HTHS viscosity requirement than 0W40 or 5W40. So that is why I suggested 15W40, as I wouldn't want to thin your 10W50 too much.

Sure you can get cheap 20W50, but as above, very few of these carry the higher quality ACEA specs.

Perfect !!!
Just under $20

The regular price at SCA or Repco would be about $50 for 5L.
