Some people did bring up interesting information though, such as saying that Pennzoil is better than Mobil 1. So now my question is, why is that (better base stocks, additives)? Is it good enough to be included as #1 in the list?

No more opinions or lists, please.

Sorry but there are not to many chemist on here, just users. So most of what is posted is opinion, plain and simple. I have no scientific proof Pennzoil Synthetic is better than anyone else's synthetic. My family has used nothing but Pennzoil products since the 40's and I have been using Pennzoil Synthetic's since they were first introduced many years ago. Plus there name is on my pension check.

I don't have a list but at this point I have to believe that Royal Purple to be the best. I am sure that there probably are other oils better than RP but I have yet to see any anectodal evidence of that.

This thread is why I choose Royal Purple to be the best.

Many will say that other oils like Amsoil, Red Line etc...can do the same but those people won't have visual and metric evidence that the above thread provides. You asked for FACTS and the above thread shows facts for Royal Purple assuming that the OP of that thread was telling us the whole truth.

As i have used all of these, i put them in this order.

The first 5 are only available at specialty shops
1. Motul
2. Amsoil
3. Redline
4. Royal Purple
5. Lucas Oil
Next 5 would be my pick if i go to CT or Walmart.
6. Castrol Edge
7. Castrol German
8. Mobil 1
9. Valvoline Synpower
10.Pennzoil Ultra

I like to use additives in the bottom 5 also.

ANY synthetic.

If you plan to go awhile: RP, Amsoil, M1 EP ( maybe Edge)

My OCIs tend to be at the lower end of the spectrum, so pretty much whatever is on sale will do.

granted, it'd going to be hard for the Cobalt to part with the PP it likes so much....

I was going to temporarily remove the 1-10 list since a lot of people felt inclined to fill one out.

And my plan later was to fill out the list if people came to an agreement, but obviously there's no debate going on... and I can't fill out the list anymore.

You want THIS crowd to come to an agreement?,You're kidding right?

What this forum could really do with would be the ability to create a poll so that you can ensure you get the answers you are looking for in a structured way. Other forums have such a feature.

In lieu of that, akhristov, why don't you set up a free survey on surveymonkey.com and invite people on this forum to fill it in?
