Top 10 Best Synthetic Oils You Would Pick?

so far the only synthetics Ive tried have been Mobil 1 and Penzoil Platinum. Im quite happy with both of those products. I am going to try out Amsoil next spring in the Mustang and another brand for my moms Explorer, maybe Castrol Edge just to see how that is.

For off the shelf PP.

Boutique oils, Redline, or Amsoil.

Nothing wrong basing opinions on what you read on Bitog. You just have to respect the source of the info. Beats all kinds of crazy testing and dozens of UOA's for the average person (who wants a really good oil) driving the average car. JMO

Kind of hard to give a top ten because every vehicle and application are different. Best I can do is list my preferred top 10 brand formulas overall in order. Doesn't mean I would 100% for sure go in this order though when selecting an oil for the vehicle in question. I am also not listing weights either as I am a firm believer in use what the mfg suggests so the choice is never mine. Too many unknown factors however to say these are the top 10 hands down for everything...

1 - Royal Purple
2 - Redline
3 - Schaeffers 9000
4 - Kendal GT1/76 Lubricants
5 - Penzoil Platinum
6 - Valvoline Synpower
7 - Quaker State Ultimate Durabiility( formerly Horsepower )
8 - Castrol Syntec
9 - Amsoil SSO
10 - Mobil 1 EP

my choices:

1. Redline
2. Amsoil
3. Royal Purple
4. Castrol Edge
5. Penzoil Platnium
6. Mobil 1
7. Sell Rotella
8. Castol Syntec
9. Valvoline Synpower
10. Quaker State UD

im currently running RP and its working great...

I'm not going to pick 10 because I'm not as experienced as some of the regular posters here, but I will say that lately I've decided to switch to Pennzoil Platinum 10w30 for my 89 Caprice with 310k miles, in the winter. Reason being, that out of all the synthetics that have a good rep, I seem to find it on sale a lot more often either at Walmart or Canadian Tire, that way I can keep the car running the same oil for several OCI's. I get a 4.4L jug for 24.99 instead of the regular 34.99 when it goes on sale, probably sounds expensive to you but we get ripped off here in Canada.

I would pick WallyWorld SuperTech Full Syn. That's based on price and results on UOA's in my daughter's and my '08 Foresters.

Yes I am serious.

Probably the best Syn (That I haven't tried ) is the Motul 300V series.

Note: Shell Helix Ultra, only if it were free.

No 5w30? No 0w30? No 10w30? No 5w20? Synpuke 5w40 instead of RTS 5w40 which is always one of the best oils out there?

This list is useless (to all my applications anyway).

Pennzoil Platinum - my only choice.

Over the years I have used Redline, Mobil 1, Royal Purple, Amsoil and Pennzoil Platinum. Today I own two vehicles, both daily drivers. I use PP 5w30 in the wife's van and Amsoil 5w30 in the Tahoe. The van gets a 5,000 OCI (currently has 25,000 on the clock) and I am trying to run the truck to 20,000 on this latest round of Amsoil (150,000 on the clock). I doubt I will make it...I think 20K is a bit much for the same oil. I'll probably pull the plug around 15K.

Once I change out the Amsoil in my Tahoe I will go to PP. I can get it at Wal-Mart, it is well priced and it is a good oil. I will stick with the 5K OCI on the van and 10K OCI on the truck. The van has only ever had PP...the truck has had a variety. If I had unlimited money then I would probably buy Redline oil since I think - my opinion only here - that it is a fantastic oil. I believe that PP is the best off the shelf, available at Wally world oil out there.

I guess the best syn oil or the ultimate syn oil for you to use is the one you deem the best for your application.

All I've used is PP, SynPower, and Mobil 1 in cars.
And ST Full Syn in grandpa's Snow blower.

So I can't make a list of 10. All ran fine, but the M1 seemed to have some minor noise on cold startup in my friends Saab 9-3
(I was running M1 0w40 with a Mahle filter)

I only use Amsoil. If I were lazy, I'd use Mobil 'cause I can go 3 minutes to Wallyworld and get it. Takes me 40 minutes to get to my Amsoil Dealer.

There are a lot of synthetics that I would use if price was not in the equation, because there are darn good oils for $10-$15 a quart. BUT.....I will not use those because of price.

So here are my top ones....

#1 & #2....It is a tie between M1 and PP.
#3 & #4....It is a tie between Castrol Edge and Valvoline Synpower
#5.........YB!!!!

Wouldn't buy anything else unless I was in a jam!

In picking these oils "just to stir the pot" what and why other than a preconcieved notion ,or the manufactures literature "hype" or racers using a certain brand of oil "contingency or sponser $$$" or selling the oil. What really makes your choices valid? using the oil for the past 63,281 miles without the engine blowing up doesn't really count because most likley the engine would get the same results with any equal oil.

This is my opinion of the top syn oils, and yes Ive used them all.

First best, Redline 5w30 hands down, top dog..

Second best,Amsoil 5/30,i think a little over priced for what it is.

And third comes M1 EP 5/30,grossly overpriced, wouldn't pay more than 4.50 quart.

Now there is a good list, but you left off ASM 0W-20.
