Ok folks, I took a leap of faith based on all your expertise and waited...4K miles to change my Chrysler's oil! Will be doing 4K OCI's on all my other vehicles as well. It was excruciating standing by that extra 1K after 24 years of 3K OCI's. I do, however, change my habits slowly, so it may take me a few months or so before I do the unthinkable: 5K OCI. *** help me.....What's next, trying something other than Valvoline????

Try 10K or more on synthetic and report back, 4k is nothing. My toyota recommends 5K.

No need to switch from valvoline if you feel comfortable with it. The only reason you should switch is because you want a better value or you want to go to a synthetic for longer OCIs. Dont let this board fool you, Valvoline is a great oil. It just isn't priced great.

It's not great. But it's as good as any dino.

Maxlife Synthetic is even better advice. Plus it's free after rebate. I just received my 2nd rebate for $26.95... subject to using a 2nd email address - 2nd mailing address & 2nd name (wife).

With the 3.5, you're OK to start extending oil change intervals. If you had the 2.7 like I do, your pretty much stuck with 3000 mi OCI when using dino; perhaps 4000 mi using grpIII synth.

Wean yourself off the 3000 mi habit gradually. Perhaps get an oil analysis done when you get yourself up to 5000 mi and have Terry Dyson review and comment on the analysis. The oil analysis plus Terry's separate consultation are well worth the money.

Oh OK!! Next OC I'll try Maxlife and I will do 5K OCI assuming I can keep myself from going insane waiting.... Actually, I was considering trying this anyway; the New Yorker has 132K, still runs like a champ. I'm still getting 25MPG highway and around 20-21 in-town. Must be doing something right.
