Honestly, if he's going to look for a second vehicle to buy, it should be one that is the same exact version of the truck he's currently driving.

If he could find one that is rusty, or bashed up, but drives good without check engine lights, then he could swap parts onto his decent looking, but light filled truck, that leaks exhaust into the cabin.

BC.

I learned that the local mechanic has a smoke-testing machine. Some blue thing that looks like a big portable battery jump-starter.

That said.. if I had the $600, the VW would be bought by me!

You posted a WTB ad with a price of under $1000. So did you actually mean under $100?

Even a brand new VW is likely to turn into a basket case. I'd stay away from one for $600 with 170,000 miles on it.

Little secret: I may be inheriting a 2000 or 2001 Pontiac Bonneville soon. it too is messed up in some ways.

I can't take $100 for the car. I would keep it and get it running perfect and replace every single thing in it piecemeal for 5 years before I did that. I already junked two cars.

As to the timing, my biggest fear is loosening distributor cap to turn it. I had screws fall out once doing this. I may buy my own light and try it, though.. As much as my focus will permit me to. I am sure I could get enough resolve to do it. One question I have is do they mean turning the distributor CAP; vs turning the distributor itself.

I just got someone that says they may be interested in a trade.

Not sure what to do now. Not with the Blazer showing signs of wanting to work right, if its issues are really a sensor, a leaky/clogged exhaust and a little TLC in tune..... with select parts form junkyards like fan shroud, or EBay, and radiator supports, etc..

It was not a typo on the $1000.

I am not sure I can change your pre-existing IQ through interaction on the Internet, QP.

After asking for opinions and getting an overwhelming "don't buy", you still would buy it.

You sir, should not be in control of your own money.

Allow me to assist.

Stop buying junk. Use public transportation until all your debts are paid and you've got at least $3,000 saved for a reliable car. You have neither the money, skill, nor patience to make a cheap car work for you.

Oh, and don't get arrested anymore.

You could probably stand to cancel your internet service and save that money too.

I told myself I was gonna let stuff like that go.

As to "Should I buy.." SOMEONE said "it would be entertaining."

I am not going to buy it. Would buy that $1000 jag first. AND I can't buy that!
