I have an 05 Titan that was a lease/fleet and had 36K and OCI every 4-5K according to the service book. I used to take truck to Iffy Lube or Wally and have the oil changed, up until I found a used Oil receptacle owned by the County a few blocks from me. A good friend of my and mechanic suggested that I run PP 5w30 and a good filter due to my driving habits. I drive highway (well 45-55 mph with few traffic lights) 20 miles each way to work. I also idle for about an hour daily. He recommended Pennzoil Platinum for 3K for the first fill, then every 5-6K after that. He said since I had been using dino/bulk and only who knows what the previous owner used, the PP will clean out the glop, so use a cheap filter for 3K, then change 5-6K, due to heavy idling in CFL hot summers.
Y'all think I can go longer with PP, or stick with 5-6K due to the heavy idling? I used a SuperTech filter (heard good things about them), but when I change after the initial 3k, I will be using NapaGold/Wix/PureONE filters.
I have a horror story about Iffy Lube/Screw if you want to listen

Thanks,
Dave

PP will do 10k easily, EVEN with the idling - very stout oil.

If uncomfortable with that, do at least 7-8k.

We love hearing Iffy-Lube stories on here - we have whole threads on them!

Posted new topic about Wally World and my truck. Have another one with Wife car... No More. I will do myself. Neighbors have been asking me if I will do OCI for them..

Thanks for the input about PP. I used to be afraid of Pennzoil, but mainly from Amsoil guys saying it would wax up the valve train. This site has been a big help. Since PP is only 23 for a 5 quart bucket at china mart I will change at every 5K. Most quick lube places want 70+ for a change (I take 6.5 quarts). At least Wally Mart gave me the half quart left over, none of the others did... hmmmm.

Thanks again,
Dave

Why don't you search for "Titan" in the UOA section? You can see how it performs with different oils. PP did work well in Titan UOAs. Most owners are using 5,000-7,500 mile intervals. I would personally lean towards 5,000, but I'm conservative.

I looked up Titan in the UOA and with PP, things look pretty good. Since changing to PP and only having 600 miles on it, the oil on the dipstick is pretty dark already. Hmm, must be cleaning as advertised. I will probably change it at 3K and new PureOne filter, then go every 5K after. I am also conservative.

Thanks for all the help.

I run PP 5000 in my wifes car...excellent choice and it will keep the engine spotless.

All you are doing is wastig money on too frequent OCI.

Is "Pennzoil Platinum" or "Penzoil Untra" what i need for No lsudge to Ever form, or did i do the trick with my Transmisison Fluid in there?

More like 5-8k.

Depends on the vehicle, it will do 10K miles easy is most vehicles though. PP's TBN is actually pretty high.

What is TBN?

I wouldn't do 10k on PP. Not worth saving $14 IMO. The reason I do my own oil changes is to be able to use inexpensive synthetic oil and keep engines 150-200k or more. I want them squeaky clean inside. So 5000 it is.

TBN is Total Base Number, a measure of the oil's additives.
