OMG! I guess you know my buddy Mike Abernathy......

Mike is the man! Bought too many cars from him. Good guy!

Small world huh?

The tactic is to get you into the door. Bait and switch, which I think is illegal in many sates, but that fine print probably gets them out of trouble. In any case, walking is the best option. Next one is emailing few dealerships to get their best price. This way they don't have an advantage over.

Yeah!!!!
I've never been there but I supplied Mike with a bunch of goodies over the years for his hobby.
We go back to the mid 80's!!!!

Next time you see him tell him The Springman said hi!!!

I do all my negotiating via email long before I ever meet anyone face-to-face but start every transaction with the same disclaimer - I don't play games and will walk at any point during the deal if I feel games are being played.

I have 3-6 of every brand of car within 30 mins of me...someone wants to play games I have lots of other choices.

That dealer is playing games.

I know at our VW dealership their internet price IS what they are listing it for. I looked at a 2018 Passat R-Line recently and it had an internet discount of either $5K or $6K. I even negotiated them down from that. I think I got it down to $18K or so. Just depends on the dealer.

With all the research one can do online, its easy to know what is a good deal for any car. It's not a guarantee of getting the absolute lowest price but you should be able to leave with a good deal nonetheless.

So I was on the market for used/CPO Sienna last three weeks. Talked to numerous dealerships across the country as buying vehicle 2000 miles away from home is regular occurrence and visited few around here.
I must say Toyota dealerships so far were the worst dealerships I have ever visited.
The patronizing behavior is so annoying it is ridiculous.
These are common phrases:
1. Tremendous power. My answer: V12 bi-turbo under the hood?
2. Amazing brakes. My answer: Brembo calipers? (none had a clue what is Brembo).
3. Unprecedented reliability. My answer: yes, if other manufacturers put engine with this technology, it would be reliable too.
4. Great AWD, you know Toyota makes Land Cruiser: My answer: SIenna has same 4WD as Land Cruiser?

Once they figure out that they cannot patronize you, they just shut down in the mode that says: just leave, we have enough soccer mom's as buyers.
I ended up buying Sienna from BMW Denver. They kind of understood it is just a minivan not Lotus Elise.

Your post made me crack up.

Congrats on the new purchase. Was this the vehicle you purchased?

If you shop for the absolute lowest price, you are likely to stumble across a bunch of dealers like this that will use these kinds of tricks to get you in the door in hopes of closing a sale for a higher than the low price advertisement.

It will take some work to sort out the unrealistic prices from the realistic price you will be able to get.

I've got a few out the door pricing on a few vehicles I might buy in the near future.

If they want $1 more than what was agreed upon then I'll walk. I got quotes and simply forward them to other dealers.

Beat this OTD price, shift numbers around to make this deal happen, if not bye bye.

Don't even get me started on Toyota dealerships. Had been trying for weeks to negotiate the purchase of a Camry. I just finally gave up. The BS was non-stop from every dealer I worked with. We'll be keeping our Sierra 1500 after all.

Yeah, not that stock photo, but yeah.
It was only AWD in CO with that mileage. I was negotiating with dealer in Michigan and New Jersey, but got this one as they offered me good money for BMW.
It had before small bumper accident, but nothing major.
Overall car is OK, just getting used on the fact when I crank up music side mirrors dance and when I close the door I have a feeling everything will disassemble from inside.
One thing I would really appreciate instead of all those pings whenever you do something or 100 air bags is decent brakes.

Here's a perfect example right here:

Holy crap, great deal, right?! $ 27,418 for a new Camaro SS!!!!!

Then in the description, they put this:

"Price includes all available conditional rebates and offers from Chevrolet. Contact the dealership to verify eligibility for these rebates. Not all customers and vehicles will qualify for all rebates. Must finance with GM Financial. Offers can change without notice."

So not only do you have to qualify for ALL of the following to get that price:

" $2,000 - Chevrolet Conquest Private Offer. Exp. 10/01/2018, $500 - General Motors Consumer Cash Program. Exp. 10/01/2018, $500 - GM Bonus Cash Program. Exp. 09/10/2018, $1,000 - GM Down Payment Assistance Program. Must finance with GM Financial. No exceptions. Exp. 10/01/2018, $250 - GM Extended Family Card and Buypower Card Bonus Cash Offer. Exp. 10/31/2018, $1,000 - Chevrolet Select Market Bonus Cash. Exp. 10/01/2018 $2,000 - COPELAND Trade-In Assistance - Must trade a 2013 or newer vehicle to receive this offer. Lease vehicles excluded. Amount added to total trade-in allowance. - Exp. 09/30/2018 $1,500 - GM Cards With Redemption Limits Copper/Platinum - Must have $1,500 GM Card with $1,500 in points for Silverado and Camaro"

Even if you meet all of those criteria (which is next to impossible), they can "change the offer without notice." So you drive there and they say "oh that was only good for this morning."

I think it's legal if they put their dumb disclaimer in the seller notes.

My advice? Don't do business with dealers like this.

Toyota dealerships in my area are miserable for both sales and service. Even if you walk in as a serious (or repeat) buyer, they play every game in the book. I hope that our Sienna does not need to be replaced for a long time -- I do not want to set foot in one of their local dealerships again.

The local Acura dealership is the complete opposite -- I wish Acura made a minivan. Bonus points if they equipped it with SH-AWD.

So, I went this morning to local dealership here, Larry H. Miller. Need inner taillight (I forgot I added shelvings and while backing up broke taillight on Saturday).
So on ebay OE Toyota taillight is $80, they want $143. I said: thanx, but no. On ebay is $80. The guy just gave me this look like I should be privileged to buy from them. I said again: thanx, have a nice day. No response from that person.
I was numerous times in BMW dealerships asking for prices, and if it is too expensive I would say: thanx, but I found it somewhere for xxxxx price. They would either try to match price or say: yeah, just get there.

Aren't you the guy who always claims great driving skill?
LOL!
Anyway, the part on fleabay is probably a knockoff and not OEM. It'll hold up accordingly as the reflector tarnishes, the lens clouds and water leaks into the assembly.
