99 Ranger 2.5 owned since new. 253,000 miles on it. Current fill is QS green bottle 5-30 with 3,800 miles on it. Driven moderate to aggressive. I don't do UOA's and not going to start with this milage. Should I run it longer or wait till 5K (considering the milage)? Doesn't use oil, .25 quart at best.

What I meant to ask is, change it out now at 3800 or wait to 5K? No input anyone or just doesn't matter either way?

I'd ask how many months you've run it? If it's about 6 months, change it. If it's less run it to 5k or 6 months, whichever comes first.

Looks like HTSS beat me to it by some seconds.

If you've run it throught the winter in MI...I'd change it out.

MI like NY, uses salt on the roads in winter, along with short tips...I'd just change it out and put in a fresh fill of QSGB and run it throught the Summer and into the Fall.

Then change it out again for the winter OCI.

Just curious, how does the salt effect the oil?

It doesn't, unless it's salt dust that you often get from the pulverizing affect of rock salt on the road, so then it's more about the efficiency of your air filter.
But even then, since salt is relatively soft compared to sand (silicon) I don't think it's would have any measurable affect on engine wear.

Thanks for all the responses. I ran QS synthetic over the winter and changed it to green bottle around March. I rack up miles pretty quickly, about 50-60 miles a day. I usually run the syn in winter and conventional in the summer. I was just wondering if I should change earlier than 5K now a days due to high milage. I never make it to 6 months on a oil change, maybe close over winter months, thats why I run the syn then.

Considering these details, go to 5k.

That quickly, 5k no worries.

Sounds good to me...actually get the value out of what you pay for!
