'94 GS300. I put the jumper wire to the diagnostic port and when i use the timing light I notice that the timing mark on the balancer is the same as without the jumper. There's 2 marks on the pulley, one for regular timing and one that you set with a wire jumpered in the diagnostic port. I also do the jumper wire and I don't get any blinking light to see what codes are, it just stays steady. Is there any other way to retrieve engines codes?,thanks

I'm assuming some similarly to a SC/LS of similar vintage
Do you have BOTH a TDCL and Check connector?
Which one are you shorting?
I assume you're shorting TE1 and E1?

You short first, then start engine to set timing
It might not be adjusting much at idle, or not until fully warmed up

OBDI Toyotas should have two Diagnostic Link Connectors (DLC) - DLC1 is a rectangular connector that's under the hood; DLC2 is a round, "D" shaped connector that's under the dashboard. I think the link should be the same for the '94 GS300.

You can connect a scan tool to the DLC1 and DLC2 but I think this requires a Toyota-specific scan tool.

Odd that my OBDII LS has the familiar DLC3 (OBDII) connector and the old DLC1 connector under the hood; believe it or not, it's still useful. I think the DLC2 disappeared when OBDII was introduced.
