timing on a 92 accord

Should be shown on the underside of the hood on the emissions label, especially if this car is originally a CA Emissions vehicle. Should be easy to time off of the distributor, probably in the neighborhood of 10-14 deg BTDC. Don't forget to short out the diagnostic port first before setting the base timing.

My step-mom had a '92 Accord, nice clean basic car (I feel the later gen Accords are too upscale), loved it...totalled after hitting a coyote. She said it was her favorite car....and her two previous were an '86 Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 (rare Cosworth-built model, racing homoligation) and before that a Porsche 911 Carerra :)

Keep that Honda running and on the road!

Dave, did you remove the distributor or something? If not, you don't ever need to check or set the timing. The base timing will stay the same unless you ever remove the distributor. The ECU takes care of the rest.

The timing will retard a bit from cam belt stretch and the normal minute wear of the cam distributor mating.
Not a lot, but in that direction over time.
Advancing the ignition timing gives you all the power and economy that is in the engine. Spark knock is the limiting factor.
Pick the fuel you want to use, and adjust it accordingly. If you hear a rattle here and there, retard it a couple of degrees.
But like mentioned, the sticker should be under the hood, for stock settings.

I'd leave it alone.

Plus, the ECU will just retard the timing right back to where it want it.

For sure don't just move the distributor without at least getting a timing light on it.

What if it is too retarded?
A huge waste of fuel and power.
It's like having your tire pressure too low - it's a bad thing all around, and we all check tires.

So everyone who has a car with a distributor that is ECU controlled should check their timing?

D99 - Huh?
That '92 Honda is adjustable. That is what I obviously am referring to in this thread.
I did not even hint that all cars are adjustable, or broach the subject of other cars' computer controlled systems.

If I said the Chicago Cubs and White Sox are doing great his year, would you retort, "So all Soccer fans are Hooligans?!" ?
