Timely to the latest round on vaccinations

Excellent article, nothing new here. The bottom line is that an unbiased review of all available evidence clearly indicates that vaccinations are far less effective than commonly thought, and not necessarily as safe as commonly thought either.

yep, agreed.. i work in a medical field..some do more harm than good. but of course they wont tell you about it, bc after all its all about the $$ and profit for the share holders.. duh... bunch of snake oil medicinces floating around

I was considering the Pneumonia Vaccine. Is it effective?

It won't protect against all strains. But its a no brainier IMHO to get. You can find any number of people who somehow think that Vaccines were invented by the anti-Krist. I have missed 2 in the last 30+ years and have never had the flu. I believe in them.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Flu season is almost here, and a new study finds that skipping that annual flu shot could have serious consequences for older people.

"The 10-year study of seniors included those from the Portland area. It found that vaccination against influenza was associated with a 27% decrease in the risk of hospitalization for influenza or pneumonia — a common complication of the flu. The risk of death fell 48%."

I got my flu shot while wasting time in the hospital. They said a fresh batch just came in and asked if I wanted one. I said yeah, we had been chatting about the vaccine on BITOG. No problem yet.

The first paragraph at that link is a quote of Dr
Andrew Weil.

Google Dr Weil quack if you would like to read about him.

That's fine, I didn't know anything about Dr. Weil. But take his quote and mentions about him out of the article, there appears to be quite a bit of empirical data in there that you do not address. Data that appears to be taken straight from EBM medicine.
Now where is that pot-stirring icon...

Weil has some good ideas, and some completely whacko ideas. If you followed his vitamin advice, you'd rattle.

One of his suggestions for hayfever is to eat locally grown unpasturised honey...seems to work very effectively.

Their are pro's and con's to vaccinations but over all they are a plus. The only down side to vacinations is the perservatives wich are usualy mercury based. If you could get them to make them with out these nasty perservatives then they would be all pro's with no con's in a person with a healthy immune system!!

I have so many immunizations traveling the globe thanks to Uncle Sam! I am still alive and well and have three boy's that have all had their shot's and are alive and well. I do think that takeing extra zink, vitamin c,d,e and fish oil are always a good thing to include when ingesting toxin's of any kind but especialy vaccinations.

The same can be said of many mental institution residents, but I wouldn't go to them for medical or dietary advice.

I made the mistake of buying one of his books once because I wanted something to read on a plane trip and the title and cover blurbs made it sound worthwile. Mistake.

When I was six I developed a sever pollen allergy. Allergologist made me chew honey combs (from the apothecary) in an attempt to naturally help the misguided immune system. Didn't do anything and I needed to be desensitized with shots of diluted allergens over the course of three years. Until today I am repulsed by honey. The smell of honey alone makes me ill.

worked in our house the other week also...sky was "yellow", and our daughter was snotty and sneezy...roadside bought honey on crumpets for a week, and no issues at all.

A severe allergy, and I could see honey potentially putting you into shock.

If you guys are camped in front of the computer, you might learn a thing or two reading through the full article of each link Mr. Alston pulls quotes from.

Here's a well-written site which I feel mysteriously compelled to promote: http://www.fallacyfiles.org/index.html

In a toss-up between which of the two tasks I would recommend to the average Joe who desires to improve his health, I would probably pick reading through this site in lieu of my previous recommendation. Sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day.

Probably the particular pollen that caused her symptoms wasn't around after a week. Most grasses and trees produce pollen only for a short time.

I didn't have a honey allergy. Breathing in pollen and ingesting pollen does not have the same effect. They performed a scratch test (on the whole back) for dozens of kinds of tree and grass pollen, mold, house dust, animals and foods on me every year for a few years. Immunotherapy with honey may work for some with pollen allergies, especially believers, but it doesn't do squat for a sceptic like me.
