I put my winter tires on today. I assembled what I needed starting with a mechanics chair, followed by my 3/4 inch breaker bar with its 22 mm socket, a torque wrench set for 140 foot lbs, my anemic battery powered impact wrench, my Nut Buster corded impact wrench good for about 120 ft lbs make up torque, a can of Krown rust preventor and a grease gun with synthetic grease. The wheels are on a 2008 Chev Suburban 3/4 ton. The after market rims had splined lug nuts requiring an adapter. I used the 3/4 inch breaker bar to loosen them. Just trying to keep them in good shape.

With the summer tire off I sprayed all bolts holding the brake assembly as well as the rear springs and frame with Krown for corrosion resistance. The truck has rear disc brakes.

Same process in the front but I greased the ball joints and tie rod ends because they were so accessible. The winter tire emblem is shown. They are four-year old Cooper ATW’s with maybe one more year of thread left.

There is 9/32 left.

I really like my low profile jack. It’s similar to the ones sold by Harbour Freight. I had no trouble picking up the back end of the Suburban under the rear diff. Always use jack stands.

Sometimes I forget there is an area to my north when I gripe about my winter. Too soon to think about snow tires!
