Yepppp , it's time for new rotors on my 2005 Camry.

I just put on NAPA " ADAPTIVE ONE " ceramic pads on the other day ( made in China....of course) BUT they look like good quality. Now I got a pulse/ shimmy when applying the brakes , but it was doing the same before on the old pads , but worse now.
SOOOooo do I want to get NAPA rotors or ? Is there any rotors NOT made in China , but USA made that I can go to a local dealer and purchase?
Do I wanna buy the best....or buy the elcheapo's and replace every year or so?
Guide me right fellas......BOB

I would go with either Wagner or Raybestos if you want to replace the current rotors, you can buy either one from Amazon.com for less than $40 each. But you may be able to turn the rotors if they have enough thickness to do so.

Wheel bearings or hubs?
Even cheap rotors should stop smoothly when new.
They may not last under heat and stress, but shouldn't be poor after just a few miles.

Its pretty hard to bed in pads with warped rotors. In most cases you would want to try and bed in the pads anyway. Make 5 hard stops from 50 to 0. You might get embedded material off the rotors and rescue them ,but I doubt it.
I just had my daughters bonneville rotors cut. $12 each. Solved the problem.
If your rotors are bad , try aimco . They work fine.
Chinese steel rotors usually last about 1 year before they warp , at least the ones I have had. on my taurus and bonne.

i've had good luck with Wagners. You can also get them at Advance auto. Might be able to throw down a nice coupon code and save some $$$.

No , I did not bed in the brake pads , but it might be too late for that now as I had to take a 400 mile trip with the new brakes and original rotors. Yes they were shaved down once....so that's out. Gonna go tmrw and check out NAPA , Advanced auto and see what they got. I prefer to buy USA goods if I can , but sure is getting difficult to do so any more with any given item.

Thanks for all your answers....I'll let you know what I end up with !

Unless you find some old stock, all the ones at NAPA will be made in China, I believe. I went through this with my Hyundai recently. All the major brands are now made in China. Raybestos, Wagner etc.

A few months ago, EBC brake's website said their rotors were not made in China. They've changed it since the last time I looked. Here's what it says now:

From: http://www.ebcbrakes.com/automotive/ebc_...nt_rotors.shtml

Quote:
EBC manufacture many of its rotors in either its own sister company foundry in the UK or in Italy, all rotors are machined and finished in the UK and in the USA.

Where castings or finished rotors have to be bought in to complement the range, the strictest quality controls you can imagine are applied to ensure the safety and quality of the parts we sell. There are ZERO aftermarket casting companies active in the USA much to our regret. The castings we source come mostly from our sister foundry in the UK by a large margin, then some from Italy, some from Japan, some from Australia, some from the Czech Republic and some from China. We source QUALITY parts from well known and proven vendors and we are responsible for and guarantee those parts to fit and perform as expected.

You could email or call EBC and see where the rotors for your vehicle are made. I just checked Amazon, and they are $55 each. I don't know your vehicle's specs, but these will fit a 2005 Camry.

Link to rotors on Amazon.

You could also look at OE or send an email to Beck Arnley and ask where their rotors for your vehicle are made.

I eventually settled on Raybestos Professional rotors ordered through Amazon for around $27 each. Rock Auto has similar prices, but Amazon is much cheaper because of the free shipping.

Maybe if you buy rotors from a Toyota dealer, they aren't made in China.

Also, some of the rotors that are cross drilled or slotted are made in the USA, or someplace nice, however, they aren't the best idea for simple street driven vehicles.

Get cheap rotors and good pads. CLEAN the rotors with brake cleaner and then wash them in dish soap water. Clean and lube the sliding parts and pins.

There are no guaranties on rotors now. Cheap can be great, and expensive can be faulty.

Indeed.

I'm perfectly happy, almost impressed, with the Chinese-made AAP Wearever rotors I installed on the front of my Subaru and the Wearever drums on the rear of my wife's Corolla.

The NAPA rotors on the rear of my Subaru are another story.

I'm very impressed with how well Autozone's duralast line of rotors stands up to abuse. Last year when I bought all around Hawk performance ceramic brake pads, I purchased 4 duralast brake rotors for $65 after rebate. Now with 26,000 miles on them they still have no warping or signs of wear, very impressed for the price.

I couldn't find anything on their website that said the rotors are made in the USA. It says they are a "manufacturer," but that doesn't mean they are manufactured in the USA.

But, if you follow this link, it says their rotors are "machined in the USA."

Centric told me the same thing when I emailed them about their rotors. They are cast in China, then the blanks are machined in the USA.

What good pads do you recommend?

For the average guy, the best pads at your local auto parts store are very good. Sure, there may be better pads out there somewhere, but may fill a need you don't have!

Look for a rating [on the edge of the pad] that is no less than E E. E F or F F is better - more grab warm and hot.

Ceramic pads are much cleaner - this is great for your wheels.
Semi mets work fine, but are a bit dirtier.
The most important brake advice is to clean and lube everything. You have to have those pins free!

This is the same advice I always give.

I always buy Napa parts, Tru Stop pads and their rotors have always worked well for me.
And I re Sil Glyde my slides every time I service my brakes. Makes a huge difference in longevity of the feel and free-ness of the brakes.
