Thoughts on this ratcheting wrench set?

For that price, consider it a bonus if they function at all. That said, they might be just fine.

I would be concerned about one grenading under the hood and having to fish out the loose ratcheting mechanism parts.

Time for you to buy a couple sets and become a youtube star!

edit: If they're so sloppy in design they're not the size and round off fasteners, then they are garbage.
Some of the HF tool fits are so bad, they have to be so classified.

Garage journal forums seem to indicate that they don't have the tightest tolerances and can round off some fasteners. They mentioned going for the 120xp line from my reading. This was in 2020 so not sure if anything has changed.

I personally despise spline -- it will leave marks on fasteners.

I bought the Mountain Wrenches. I cried at the price. They have been awesome The offset side fits into recessed stuff. So nice for serpentine belts etc. and nice for the extra leverage.

They look OK, like every other wrench in this price range. 4-5 years ago I bought a similar 12pc set off the amazon machine. Actually 2 sets. One metric, one SAE. Yashong brand. They're OK. They work for me when I need them.

Those are a cheap tools. My thoughts on this type of tool is being as long as they are they are prone to breakage when highly stressed and with that length it is not too hard to do, warranty is everything. I have no problem with the spline vs reg 12 point, most spline types have an offset on one side making it similar to a super stubby socket, it can be very useful.
Unless I am working with black plated (not black oxide) or chrome fasteners I don't worry about small marks on the heads.
These are Gearwrench, I never liked the quality of their tools but these are 12pt non reversible. I never tried to warranty something from them but I hear it can be a pain.

These are the Icon 12pt spline reversible with lifetime walk in walk out with a new one warranty like the old Craftsman. For me that is a important consideration. I have them and they are very decent for the money, not cheap.

Agreed. These are high warranty items due to their length -- they break a lot. The HF set is top notch if you can stand spline, and they're an excellent value if you buy them with a coupon.

Yeah ABN is rebadged Chicom low end.

The Mountain/Icon/Carlyle/Platinum et al are Kabo. I hate the thin beams, they flex too much. But overall it's quality Taiwanese stuff.

I've been using the Matcos and love the solid beam, BUT I've been a bit disappointed. Sometimes they kinda seize up and you've gotta jostle the reversing lever (which is a better design than the easy-to-bump Kabo button) and the spline drive really seems to like to round stubborn fasteners.

There's some irony: the Kabos flex before doing anything meaningful. The Matcos don't flex but want to round hex heads if you lay into them.

Honestly a standard 12pt would be the best. I find 6pt obnoxious in ratcheting wrenches.

You can get close to the same thing with Astro nano sockets, and the respective nano ratchet but the ratchet is rare and often OOS.

I’ve got a few ABN tools. They are OK. Not great. The best ratcheting box wrenches that I have are Williams. They are so nice. But they’re expensive.

If I wanted wrenches in that flex head, double end pattern, I would look at Tekton. Tekton hits a sweet spot of quality vs. price - a very good value.

I am after the long ratcheting style; I am not sure I need any more traditional wrenches.

I own the Tekton extra long ratcheting wrenches. I never worry about their warranty coverage. As good as it gets.

Plus I like supporting a US family owned company.
