So what are the final thoughts on O Reily's Synthetic oil? The deal they are having with the 5qts and Mobil one filter is hard to pass up! Any info would be appreciated.

Frankly, the label "synthetic" is pretty meaningless. No reason to believe you are getting anything special or better than a good dino oil. Anyone could slap any label on any SM spec oil and call it synthetic. When you buy a branded oil, you know what you are getting. Some are good in cold, some maybe clean a little better, etc.

I'd say, ok, use ORiley's oil without worry, but don't expect miracles over a good dino.

Agree with others use it as a robust conventional IF that. At todays prices on oil there are outstanding oil deals on "synthetic" which of course may not be much more than what you posted about, however you could get a brand name maybe even cheaper than the parts store outsourced oil. I'm not at all condemning the oil, however look around at prices... synthetic name alone is meaningless anymore which we also get into long never ending bashing post on about on this forum.

Short of running it for several oil changes & doing UOAs on it it'll be hard to gauge how good it is. One of the advantages of using an established brand-you can benefit from the wealth of experience other users here have.

Yeah its made by Omni. Most of the other store brand fluids seem to be of Warren manufacture last time I flipped some bottle while running tranny fluid stock at the store.

Picked some up and slammed 7 quarts in my 2006 F150 5.4 V-8... I'll make sure to post a UOA on the next change with the O'Reily's synth...

Thanks for all the information. Another question, NAPA has there house brand synthetic on sale this month for $3.19 a quart. Any opinions on this stuff? Which one would you use?

I just picked up some for all 3 cars... (they wouldn't give me a mobil 1 filter for the 2.2L ecotec in the Grand Am but substituted it with a wix... still a good deal in my opinion.)

I plan on stocking up on more of it before the sale is over...

Talked with a representative of Omni packaging. He said it is made with Shell and Mobil base oils but with different additives. It's worth a try for the price.
