I went to my local Canadian Tire Auto centre for an oil change because I had a coupon for a Free Lube, Oil, Filter change. I joined the Canadian Tire Auto Club because my manufacturer's roadside assistance ran out. I would not dare take my car there so I brought my dad's Kia Sedona.

Fortunately the vehicle was put on the lift next to the waiting area. One tech took off the filter and then left. 10 minutes later another tech took over and replaced the filter assuming the oil was already drained. Proceeded to add 4 Litres of oil. Started the van. Checked the oil multiple times and didn't seem satisified. He took the van and parked it in the lot. I got my service record and proceeded to the van to check the oil. It was way overfilled like I thought.

Went in and complained and told them the oil was never drained. They drained the 8 Litres and then added the new oil again. Fortunately I was watching and caught this.

It's just another reason I like to do this myself.

LOL Yeah, I do trust them to mount up the snow tires I buy there but that's about it these days.

I had Canadian Tire inspect a pickup that I had imported from the U.S., during the inspection they twisted off a wheel Lug nut, so they replaced it. Unfortunately the replaced a metric stud with an imperial stud, so on that wheel I ended up with 4 metric lug nuts and 1 Imperial

I once heard one of the service reps at Canadian Tire tell a customer that the 5 in 5w30 was for 5000km oil change intervals and the 10 in 10w30 was for 10,000km intervals! Doh!

one year my dad gave me lame gifts for xmas, I told him I'll take his car to jiffy lube for an oil change and I didn't forget to ask for extra vasoline

I hope you had the initiative to remove this pinhead from the gene pool?

I don't let people change my oil. My wife, she insists on it, to have someone to blame that she could choke the life out of should something go wrong, since she already tries to kill me daily I wouldn't be good for that.

I used to live at this house...

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=2200+tartan+trail,+highland+village,+tx&sll=40.75844,-73.985195&sspn=0.080097,0.181789&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=2200+Tartan+Trail,+Highland+Village,+Denton,+Texas+75077&ll=33.079118,-97.07556&spn=0.00498,0.022724&t=h&z=16&layer=c&cbll=33.079226,-97.075769&panoid=hHMunpwcqx92QGrGN_Cn3g&cbp=12,128.28,,0,13.41

and the curb seemed HIGHER then...and it was perfect for oil changes. I had all the room I needed to crawl under without lifting the car at all. And I collected my oil, didn't put it in the drain. Couldn't tell you if subsequent homeowners did so...

Some of you may remember Chryslers with REVERSE threaded lugs on one side of the car.
Some bizarre reasoning about not loosening.
Countless problems ensued from this - stuck or broken parts.

Sounds like a troublesome solution for a problem that doesn't exist...
I can understand why the one pedal on my bike has a left hand thread but I don't see how a lug nut could get loose or stay tight depending on which way it is spinning on the hub.

The management that told the engineers to do this hopefully are not in politics now, making laws with the same reasoning. It seems some of them got through!
