Mine are what meets the specs for my vehicles and is a great value.

They are
1.PP 5w20 Great Prices have been had, longevity and cleanliness)
2.Valvoline Syn power/Napa Syn 5w20(great prices can be had, I have in my stash but have not used any yet)
3.Castrol Syntec 5w20(rarely a great price but probably the top performer on my list)
4.QS Synthetics. (they are a good price and meet my specs)
5.anything that meets my required specs(Chrslyer and Ford 5w20's) and has a great price or rebate. I am not that brand loyal or prejudice to be honest and would use M1 or any house brand syn if it was the best deal for my specs at the time I needed oil. )

I think that only GC has warranted its own forum. GC discussions were at least 3/4ths of the "European and Import Oil" section. Pscholte had a little to do with that.. Plus it routinely showed essentially no wear after UOA.

That only means it's thin-ish at room temperature. It doesn't mean it's thin in your engine.

It only gets thinner as it gets warmer.

Yes. The question is, how much does it thin out compared to other oils?

Edge 5w30 "feels" much thinner at room temp than, say, Mobil 1 5w30. But at operating temp, the Edge is only a little thinner (9.8 cSt @ 100 C vs. 11.3 cSt).

Amsoil's 0w30 is the same way. It's like water at room temp, but at high temps it's right in the middle of the xw-30 range.

Have only used M1 for the last 10 years......I can get it anywhere if I need to (usually buy the 5qts/M1 filter $30 deal @ Advance/PB or AZ)It has worked for me, never had an engine apart or any mechanical problems of any sort while using it. I use the 5K or 6mo formula for my cars, 1 change/year on everything else.

'10 Honda Civic ex Coupe M1 5w-20/M1-110 (1st change last week @ 5K)
'02 Honda Accord SE Coupe M1 5w-20/M1-104 (60K done every 6-mo)
'04 Mazda Miata LS M1 0W-30/M1-108 13.5K (done every 6 mo)
'05 Craftsman Snow Blower M1 5w30
'01 Toro 5.5 Hp push mower M1 10w30 (9 seasons, no smoke, starts on 1st pull)

Based on the threads here, if I were to use anything else, it would likely be PP.....In the Miata I use Motorcraft Full Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid (75W-90 GL-4) in the 6 speed and Redline 75W-90 GL-5 in the diff.

If you just browse the titles of this section you'll see "PP" over and over and over again...

I'm surprised helen hasn't banned that word yet.

i thought mobil 1 synthetics were prone to burn faster than other synthetics, but woudnt thicker mean it would burn at a lower rate? perhaps the no-ack is not as superior?

as for my favorite synthetics
1. valvoline synpower
2. amsoil
3. castrol syntec
4. mobil
i've noticed my engine running a lot smoother with valvoline than any other oil i have ever used. the acceleration of my i4 felt like a v6

if you got time, mention why!

reason why i started this was because i hear people saying this and that oil is not favored on bob is the oil guy, so i'm curious to which ones are

i think your actually asking 3 questions.

Q#1: what do you believe is this forums top 5?
A: from what i've read hear so far(in different weights):
#1:PP
#2:rotella HDEO
#3:M1 #4:castrol edge
#5:?...GC or VSP

Q#2:what is YOUR favorite taking price and performance?
A:maxima(bike),RL(car),motul,i'd like to try silkolene for the cars if they sold them here(pro r and pro s).Note:i drive hard, have euro wheels and do extended OCI.

Q#3: i've read/heard people say this and that oil is not favored in BITOG,which and why?
A: i don't know. what have you heard?

you'll find people here that favor dino oil and think others are wasting money,...others will favor HDEO apparently no matter what the applications,...others seem possibly offended over others choices,...and still others don't say much of anything.(about their choice)

when i first got here,i thought there would be at least some consensus, especially for certain applications....no such luck.

Only if you believe Amsoil and no one else.

All else equal:

Thicker usually means less volatility and higher flash point. That will prevent some kinds of oil consumption.

On the other hand, thicker oil is more prone to foaming since it doesn't release gas as fast. This can cause excess pressure in the crankcase, which can cause oil consumption through the PCV.

Again, this is all-else-equal. If the two oils are formulated differently, you can't tell how it will turn out just by looking at viscosity.

Combining my recent American owned fetish, price, availability, distrust of house brands, and cheapness, I have 10 quarts of Mobil 1 5w30 ready to go into my truck. I really would have rather have Kendall or something, but went with a full synthetic I was able to find locally.

I like to pick a product and stick with it. I was with Pennzoil YB for over 30 years. You have no idea if a house brand will be the same next oil change. I cut corners on a lot of things, but want a major brand of oil. Now that I have decided to try synthetic and longer OCI's it will be Mobil 1 for a while. I doubt I will still be changing oil in another 30 years.
