Thinnest lubricant for this Manual Transmission?

Totally! Today I was shifting *smoother* than the redline enabled. Just buttery. I actually transplanted this transmission from the u-pull-it for $150 from a Probe. So it's something I'm quite familiar with replacing *should* it ever wear out.

Remember this is not a hypoid differential, I don't have too many concerns. I will change it every 15K and check it regularly, which, I bet, lets me drive this car as far into the ground as I am planning. It is 16 years old man! Come on, now I'm not taking this thing to the grave.

I take very good care of things on my car that affect its reliability. Things like axle seals, fork seal, checking MTX fluid regularly and change every 15K when using ATF, put neodymium magnet on drain plug, use Raxles CV replacements, installed Raybestos Pro-grade LCAs on both sides, Moog inner & outer tie-rods both sides, all new swaybar bushings front and back, brakes regularly lubed and inspected front and rear, brake fluid replaced every two years, new struts front and rear, new front mounts & strut bushings, etc etc etc

Swapping a transmission sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon to me man. I anti-siezed and loctited everything last time including the exhaust downpipe and know all the fasteners by heart. Cleaned all bolts with a tap and die, filled the motor mounts with poly. It only weighs 70 pounds, no big deal.

The Protege LX of these years (can't remember exactly which years anymore) uses this transmission too.

I am trying to get the most MPG out of this car and want the thinnest possible lubricant in there amongst doing a few other things (eventually swapping out the 5th gear with a taller one).

Still looking at the original owners manual it called for "Motorcraft MERCON and DEXRON IIE Automatic Transmission Fluid". I know we are well beyond that these days. This car is my DD and it's next use will be commutes of about 140 miles a day.

I run 5 qts of Mobil 1 Synthetic + 1 qt of QS 4x4 Semi-Synthetic in the T56's I have. I found that with straight Mobil 1 I was having problems getting into 1st when cold, and putting a bit of the semi-synthetic in solved it. On my Saturn, which had sililar problem getting into 1st when cold, I put Amsoil Torque-Drive into it, and its working well. From what I've read, the Dexron VI is not good for manual transmissions.
