I have been reading up on Collinite 845 and it seems to be one of the best waxes for durability. I need something that will last a long time because I don't have time to detail the paint on my daily drivers often.

I have a few questions for users before I order it:

Do you have to clay before each application?

Can I top this with a carnuba wax for better depth? This will be done on my vintage car with single stage paint that I take to shows.

How well does it perform on dark colors and black paint? Will it highlight swirl marks like some light colored waxes?

What kind of durability are people seeing with this wax specifically in the salt belt?

I use it and it seems durable. Nu-finish being as good durabilty wise. I would clay it first. Sorry cant answer all your questions.

Paste is ALWAYS better than liquid. Buy #476 or #915 or even #885. #476 is the paste version of #845.

Use all Collinite paste waxes with supreme confidence.

But no one can tell you what to do, because we can't put our hands on your car and we have no idea what your expectations are for the finish (is, how picky you are).

I've seen Collinite 845 bead for one year on our Fusion, which was previously never clayed or waxed before. Also, in my limited experience, Collinite is one of the easiest waxes to apply and remove, and boy does a little go a long way!

Thanks for the answers to far. I was thinking of using the 845 because I read it is very easy to use. I have used paste wax before, and I currently use a paste carnuba on my vintage car.

When it comes to the daily drivers, I am not super picky, but I like a nice looking car. I currently use NuFinish on the DD cars, and if it looks better than that, I will be happy. My old car, I am pretty picky about it looking nice, but the paint job is old so it's not perfect either.

If anyone else can answer my original questions not yet answered, please chime in. Or if you have any opinion, I'd still like to hear it.

If a moderator reads this, can you please edit my thread title from "Thing about buying Collinite" to "Thinking about buying Collinite". The edit function disappeared before I noticed my typo.

Curious as to why you feel paste is ALWAYS better than liquid? I'd disagree. I guess it depends how you define better.

I would just polish before using it. I use it on my wife's car with dark paint and love it. Bugs fly in to it and just skim right off without sticking lol

Most long-life sealants and waxes will have durability in the 3-6 month range, and a lot of it will depend on the prep process, where it's parked and how frequently it is washed.

I usually got a few months out of 845 when I had my bottle, not sure where mine went.

If you want more than a few months of protection, then I would recommend stepping up to a paint coating such as Opti-Coat 2.0, CQuartz UK or C.A.R. Products BulletProof.

Use the 845 with confidence. I have used 476 and 845 on my cars. I choose the 845 because it's so easy to use and durable & it does go a long way. I love the stuff!

Collinite 845 is the cleanest, and fastest wax I have ever used. It is so fast, even if you had to use it once a month, no big deal. I have waxed my full size Chevy truck with a topper in 40 min. flat. M Roadster, 15 min. As fast as you can wash your car you can wax it with 845. But it looks best after a cool wash.

I used both Collinite 476/885 and 845 on several cars before switching to Finish Kare 1000P. The Collinites are nice, not hard to get off if applied thin, decent edndurance, but I found that here in the Northeast, the FK 1000p lasts longer, stands up to both summer and winter weather better. After polishing, I apply a thin coat of 1000P, let dry to haze, remove, then apply a second coat after a few days. This will last 6 months with decent care (washing). I use FK 425 as a topper/QD after washes from time to time.
