Here is an example of why motorcycling can be dangerous --

The real danger when motorcycling is other drivers who can't see you, or on a more sarcastic note, don't expect you coming at the rate of speed you could be going :D

Ya think?

I talked to a Motorcycle Cop about this, and most accidents he sees are youge kids with Sport Bikes. Speed is usually a factor. Very few accident with older riders and their cruisers.

Also, load pipes save lives. Other people in cars can hear you coming...

umm not really

I love threads like this. "OMG look at this pic! It is so shocking that it must be representative of all instances of ________!"

Aren't we better than this, guys? Could someone at least post some statistics for us to get worked up about?

First part I agree with, having ridden criusers for over 20-years. Of course, I drive 'like a little old lady drives a Lincoln to church' - please no intention of being offensive in this comment, just an example.

The 2nd part, 'Loud Pipes Save Lives', NO - almost all of the noise is behind you - it does nothing for those any distance in front of you! Grow up and quit trying so desperately to get attention, nobody is impressed.

There is an inherent danger in driving anything, and much less protection on a motorcycle - but a little common sense goes a long way - especially throttle-related.

So older riders can't ride sports bikes? Or young riders ride cruisers? I notice an equal number of sports bike and cruiser accidents - what bikes I notice seeing less of in rider down incidents are adventure bikes and classic,or old school bikes.

Regarding the dump truck, a friend of mine lost her brother and sister-in-law that way. They were out riding their Goldwing on a 2-lane road and in the oncoming lane a car was being followed by a UPS truck. Car stopped suddenly and the UPS truck switched into the oncoming lane to avoid rear-ending the car, and took out the Goldwing.

The riders did nothing wrong other than being in the wrong place at the right time.....

When you are driving along and hear a load noise behind you, you are not likely to change lanes a wipe out a bike that is in your blind spot. Bike are hard for people to see sometimes, and the load noise alerts them to the presence of another vehicle. Loud pipes save lives.

Being in Daytona beach, I see alot of accidents especially Motorcycle wrecks during bike week and I dont see alot of sport bikes. They are ussually cruisers and alot of the people have very simple crashes, but the dumb a's dont have helmets on and ussually die. Its ussually older people in there 50's no helmets, not paying attention and running into cars. Just what I see. I do see alot of reckless people on sport bikes passing three wide and between cars, but they dont seem to wreck, they need too.
